Granted, I will never forget being introduced to Jennifer Lawrence's boobs in that film, still doesn't make it great. Pretty run of the mill romcom to me. Know how I know you’re not crazy? I think that if you’re a little touched in the head, or very close to someone who is, the movie makes a lot more sense. I thought it was great.

February 9, 20223 yr Spider-Man No Way HomeAnd I would put Dune up there but I know lots of folks wouldn’t. I’m predisposed to like that movie.
February 9, 20223 yr Popular Post i popped back into this thread during the "great movies of the 90's" discussion, so allow me to retort. the 90's fucking ruled as a movie decade. the 60's were musical, the 70's were dark, the 80's were funny, the 90's were cool. there are a lot of cool and great movies from the 1990's. as of right now, i think a top 25 of the 90's would stack up well against a top 25 since 2000 list, which is absurd. goodfellas, la confidential, the insider, pulp fiction, heat, fight club, quiz show, unforgiven, the usual suspects, groundhog day, se7en, silence of the lambs, shawshank, the big lebowski, schindler's list, the truman show, as good as it gets, the hudsucker proxy, out of sight, millers crossing, the professional, jfk, apollo 13, talented mr ripley, boyz in the hood, casino, the matrix, scent of a woman, the sixth sense, boogie nights, malice, nobody's fool, saving private ryan, american history x, shakespeare in love, a few good men, american beauty, true romance, fargo, magnolia, the american president, trainspotting. plus some cult comedy classics like clueless, dazed and confused, office space, friday, tommy boy, billy madison/happy gilmore, swingers, clerks, beautiful girls. and i left out some schlock that others probably love like titanic, english patient, forrest gump, jerry maguire, as well as breakthrough genre movies like jurassic park, scream, dances with wolves, pretty woman, toy story 1/2. that's like 50 and i'm sure i'm forgetting some. Edited February 10, 20223 yr by henrygandorf i forgot three kings i love that movie

Schlock? The English Patient? Boooo! Booo this man! (although, the novel upon which the film is based is better). Carry on.
February 10, 20223 yr Since the thread started and originally petered out before the necrobump, gotta add 1917. Whiplash was pretty damn good, too.
February 10, 20223 yr Vote for starting a new thread called "The Really Great Movie You Just Thought About"
February 19, 20223 yr How about the last great action movie? My entry would be Den of Thieves in 2018. Hollywood has been in a bit of a drought.

February 22, 20223 yr I look at every post that names like 10-15 movies and realize I've seen only 2 or 3 of them. You guys just like movies a lot more than me. But Jojo Rabbit is a great fucking movie.

I mean think about that best picture list, FWAAF, Quiz Show, Gump, Pulp, and Shawshank. That’s incredible. That doesn’t even include all the other 94 movies. Leon, Lion King, Interview with a Vampire, all three Jim Carey movies. It’s insane how many great movies came out that year. Edit: Fucking D2 in 94 also which is the greatest hockey movie ever made. But they’re all bad. I'm not sure how I'd try and rate it objectively. I have a soft spot for it - but I'd never admit it's a terrible movie. I think it's much more redeemable than Con Air and gets too much hate.

I saw it several times in the theatre before the pandemic started and would say that it is my all-time favorite movie. I was lucky enough to get a front row seat to see it and then have Taika Waititi come and do a Q&A afterwards with us for 30 minutes. Had no idea he would be the one to do it, but Taika was pretty cool to listen to and funny as well. Edited February 22, 20223 yr by UpperWestside

February 22, 20223 yr Really liked The Underdog. Not "great", but a good movie that the kids really liked. Have high expectations for "Dog" with Channing Tatum. Re-watched Aliens the other day. Still holds up.

I don’t know if it was that bad, but I certainly don’t understand all the love it gets. Agree 100% with all of the JoJo Rabbit nods. Most people I’ve talked to dismiss it when they hear the premise and wont watch it, but they are missing out big time.
February 22, 20223 yr Need to watch Jojo Rabbit. Even though it seems there's a lot of "list a movie from the past 20 years you liked" in this thread.
February 23, 20223 yr Independence Day is awesome. Big budget movie with a big star and delivered. It probably does take blame for influencing about 50 terrible disaster movies since, though.

February 26, 20223 yr I don't think I believe this but my mind is mush right now. I'm sure I've seen great movies since then but I can't think of one so the first thing that pops into my head is The Kings Speech. I've definitely seen more great shows than movies in the last 5 years or so.
