Our basketball “fans” suck. Y’all are on here shitting on a coach that was far and away the best we’ve ever had here. It’s not even close. Did the end of his tenure suck? Sure it did. But he put us on

Do the board a favor and draw a warm bath.

I would be half as happy for a Barnes title as I would be for a Texas title. I really liked and respected him. It was obviously time for him to go as things had run its course at Texas- but the way he pulled out of the tailspin he was in and built a shitty st the time TN into a national contender speaks well for him as a coach. Good luck to the Ricktator on getting back to final four #2.

Both Barnes and Sampson have done a great job of recapturing their magic from their previous stints at Texas/OU. Some other coaches haven’t been so lucky.

Pitino after every move when he’s counted out. But he didn’t ever seem to have lost it like the other two did- his more personal scandal related.  Calipari will be interesting to watch. He was in the Barnes and Sampson group for sure. Trying to think of anyone else going through that right now at the high major level.

Time will tell with Cal, Tubby is one that I think of who faltered some after leaving UK. Although it’d be tough to replicate what he did at IU, Knight never got close to that at Tech, Crean took MU to FF didn’t get close while at IU.

Same - He deserves it, and I would be happy as hell if he could finally win one.

I would have been happy for Barnes to win a title if not for the team he is coaching. Tennessee fans are some of the worst in the SEC imo.

The Ricktator. That still makes me grin. And brings back memories of spicy arguments on TOS. Who coined it? Was it that guy Cameltoe? Trying to remember that one guy who irrationally despised him.

Me. I said it sort of lovingly.

It does seem like he's found a sweet spot in his old age between pushing his guys during the season and keeping them from breaking down and falling apart in March like his teams used to. His recent tournament performance is not the complete and total disaster it used to be.

He seems like a good man and I don't begrudge him any success.

That said, he is still yet to outperform his seed.

Part of why not every coach is 100% the same at every stop. He obviously reflected and found a sweet spot in his coaching style. Hoping for the same for Miller

they want him fired every february, despite the fact that their entire hoops history pre-barnes could be boiled down to one elite 8 + a handful of notable players. they are some whiny ass, front running losers.

Man, Derka's fascination with Rick Barnes is weird as hell. The guy hasn't made a FF in 22 years. He crumbles in the tourney every year. He's never going to get over the hump no matter how much of a hard-on you get for the guy.

He's a great in-season coach, but he's never, ever going to get past the Elite Eight. I don't care how many wins he has, 8 of the top 10 have win it all, and at least 2-3 have made more FF appearances.

Rick has ONE FF appearance in 2003. Think about that. Literally almost the entire list of people with the most wins have won multipke championships and several FF's.

“he’s only playing to his seed.” yeah, and everyone is talking about how unusual this tourney has been because, wait for it- teams are actually playing to their seed. believe it or not that usually doesn’t happen. winning in the tourney is hard.

look, after the first game, you’re playing five consecutive games against really good/dangerous teams. and every other matchup you’re facing an unfamiliar team with just one day to prepare. you have one day where your opponent is hot, one player in foul trouble, one rolled ankle, one coin flip tough loss, and any team can be upset from the round of 32 forward. there’s a reason this tourney is so hard to win- it’s the most unique and challenging tourney in world sports.

beyond that- and this is lost on 98% of cbb fans- coaches build their teams to win the league they play in. this houston/tennessee matchup is the perfect example. barnes and sampson are two of the best in the game and yet both have historically underperformed in the tourney because the formula that won them 25-30 games in the regular season when they’re in-conference and using all of their depth doesn’t work the same in a one-and-done tourney vs strange opponents on a tight schedule, while playing in cavernous football arenas no less. these teams two guys in particular have teams that win a ton of games, but are simply not built to play from behind vs a top tier opponent. that’s the five and take when you play elite defense with outstanding athletes.

now there are guys who are actual tourney chokers- shaka smart, tony bennett, matt painter, etc. and then there are guys like barnes and sampson who are outstanding coaches with more tourney wins than 95% of guys out there, who get shit-talked by internet trolls every single time they underachieve, completely ignoring the larger body of work that will see a guy like rick barnes enshrined in the hall of fame. it’s honestly pretty pathetic to be such a big hater, to ignore all success, to never admit when you’re wrong, and most of all, for the object of your ire to be a great man who was the best coach in your alma mater’s history. so strange. here’s to hoping Barnes can continue to silence some of his critics.

Yep. The move was clearly good for him. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out quite as well for us! (yet)

Looking forward to Tennessee game today, but not sure how Vols would have any chance to beat Duke in Final 4

vols will need to have a good shooting day to beat houston today. lanier, milicic, and gainey will have to be knocking down jumpers. that said, i don’t see any scenario where tennessee beats duke. i think there’s maybe 2-3 teams that have a shot against duke, and tennessee ain’t one of em. this team being a 2 seed and in the EE is already wildly impressive considering their lack of depth and nba talent.

About to make some money on this Houston ML…

so you’re dunking on barnes by betting against him in the elite 8, where he’s an underdog, against a better team and higher seed. that’s…pretty sad.

never expected a win here, just not a good matchup for tennessee. as i posted, the path to winning this game is hitting jump shots, which is not their MO, especially against this defense. i didn’t see them starting off 1/12 or whatever, but im not shocked by it either.

Are you a little bitch IRL or just on this board?

I was hoping but not expecting a win. Didn’t think it would be this bad.

early on houston was smothering them, but since then tennessee has just missed so many open jumpers. they picked the wrong day to go 3/22 or whatever.

Tell me about it.

There have been times to criticize Rick but not sure what he can do if his team just isn’t hitting shots. They are missing good looks against a tough defense.

The losers of this board smell blood.

If you’re gonna give it you gotta learn to take it.

I win my office bracket almost every year. My only rules are “ never trust Rick Barnes or kelvin sampson in tourney to get to FF“. Not enough offense ever to get em over the hump. Wouldn’t you know I had to pick one of them this year. I chose Houston begrudgingly. Duke kills either team anyway.

that was his point. tennessee has overachieved all year and the losers have been silent. now that tennessee is losing a game its supposed to lose, in the elite 8 no less, the losers are in here pounding their chest about what a loser rick barnes is, despite this year being his best coaching job ever. that’s loser behavior.
