Male offspring (age 25) took a job in Fresno that will last until at least Dec 2020 then will be relocated.

Any advice on areas to rent apt/condo?  Places to avoid?

Any help is appreciated.  I'll hang up and listen.

Ugh. Sorry for your loss.

One of my best friends in the world is the assistant basketball coach there. Still sorry for your loss.

I believe Johnny Jacobs said it best, "Fresno?  Nobody goes to Fresno anymore."

Little known fact:  The City of Fresno has more people than Milwaukee, Oakland, Saint Louis, or Atlanta.

But in all honesty, just avoid the West side.  Everything else is fine.

anyone wanna drive from Houston to Fresno in a Uhaul truck full of furniture pulling a car hauler?

I know a very successful medical architect that chooses to live in Fresno.  He makes plenty of money and could live pretty much anywhere.  That's all I got.

The latest news story I read was about a Fresno minor league team being all political. Have fun with that!

It's less than an hour and a half from the south entrance of Yosemite

You can get porn and booze there.

You pretty much NEED porn and booze in order to tolerate living there.  A friend of mine refers to it as the "armpit" of California.

Only redeeming feature is that it's relatively close to Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks, and the Sierras in general.

Trivia tidbit:  Substantial Hmong and Armenian populations live there.

The bad news is your son will have to join a street gang.  The good news is that he will have plenty of options.

In in all seriousness, best thing will be proximity to the sierras.

And delicious nectarines!

I'll bet the farmers market is fantastic.

Fresno is the Lubbock of the San Joaquin Valley.

All these "bad things" are a bit disturbing for the dad but he's only there for about a year and half. It is my job to worry about him, regardless of his age. It's a great job for him.  I hope it's worth it.

The metro area has nearly 1M people in it so he'll find plenty to do no matter what he likes.

Only saving grace for fresno is you're an hour from yosemite and about 2.5 from sequoia....do those any time you dont have to be in fresno

If you're paying

Basque food at Shepherd's Inn was pretty good (come hungry), but it's been many moons since I've eaten there so I can't really vouch for it now.

This and Kings Canyon and Sequoia.  Just a little further in distance west is Paso Robles win country, San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay.

Best Farmers markets and roadside produce in the world.

Avoid west Fresno and enjoy everything else.

Who Hmong us needed to know that?

Colleague and I got stuck in Fresno after testifying as a damages expert in trial (surprisingly there’s a federal courthouse there).  After flight was cancelled, we paid a taxi driver to take us to San Jose. Most terrifying couple of hours of my life going 75 and not able to see more than 10 feet in front the car at night. Fog in Fresno sucks.
