Incredible job by him that goes pretty much unnoticed.
August 14, 20196 yr Saint Darrell showed more moxie in that '69 pig-fucking than most coaches show in their entire careers. The decision to go for two on the first TD won the game. He said he figured we could make two on either score, and making it the first time meant a kick for an almost certain win, while not making it first meant two for a tie on the second one. Making the first one put a load on the pigs, one which they were unable to carry. Typo - '69 not '59 Edited August 14, 20196 yr by Tex Long
August 14, 20196 yr It's a shame this dude couldn't figure it out while he was here. Can you imagine the WR room with him still in the mix?

Crucial 1st down catches one after another. Best TE in Longhorn history. Of course, Fitzgerald & Finley were pretty good too.

(Rod's old article from 2014 ) https://247sports.com/college/texas/Article/Rod-Babers-ranks-the-top-DBs-in-Texas-Longhorns-history-179744/ All-Time DBU Rankings By ROD BABERS Feb 27, 2014 Share My column this week was going to be about the history of DBU, but I got bored writing it so I figured you'd be even more bored reading it. I'll rewrite it and present it to you later, but now just wasn't the time. Jerry Gray checks in at the top of a 54-player ranking of the all-time greats at DBU. Instead here's my ranking of the all-time greats in DBU history. It started with a Mount Rushmore and morphed into this insanity. I didn't mean to disrespect anyone by leaving them off, but the list had to end somewhere or it would have been like The Never Ending Story (I love that movie by the way), so I ended it at 54. This list was comprised with an emphasis on all-conference selections, All-American selections and the player's impact based on stats. I, of course, made the last call. Prior to 1951 it was tough to find players specifically tagged as defensive backs, so if I missed anyone prior to that period there was no disrespect intended. If there was a player whom was left off the list it was only because they were not listed on any all-conference teams, All-American teams, or on any relevant stats. This list is strictly about accomplishments on the 40 Acres. So, without further adieu, here's my list. Go ahead Longhorn fans, feel free to rip it to shreds. 1. Jerry Gray One of the patriarchs of DBU and had the legendary Jheri curl. 2. Michael Huff Consensus All-American, Thorpe Award winner and a national champion. 3. Johnnie Johnson Two-time consensus All-American and would've won Thorpe Award if it existed. 4. Nathan Vasher The only DB at DBU to be an All-American at two different positions. Nathan Vasher earned All-American honors as a defensive backs and as a return specialist. 5. Earl Thomas If he stayed four years he'd be on the Mount Rushmore. Is the school single-season interceptions leader. 6. Aaron Ross Winner of the Thorpe Award in 2006 as the nation's top DB. 7. Noble Doss Tied as career interceptions leader, never was All-American or all-conference. 8. Quentin Jammer Consensus All-American, responsible for making DBU relevant again. 9. Bryant Westbrook Two-time All-SWC player and an All-American. 10. Lance Gunn Maybe too high, but he's a three-time All-SWC player and an All American. 11. August 16, 20196 yr Alan Lowery scores the winning TD against Bama in the Cotton Bowl. They bitched and moaned about him stepping out of bounds (he did step on the sideline) however they seem to forget we were taking a knee inside their 10 yard line to end the game later.
