April 1, 20187 yr Just finished season 4. Not my favorite show but damn good. I see why it's highly praised.
April 1, 20187 yr Finish up, wait 3 months and do it again. it’s better the second time. Edited April 1, 20187 yr by Incredulity

April 1, 20187 yr Just finished my second rewatch. Still so great. Still very applicable which is very disheartening. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
April 1, 20187 yr Listening to them explain text messages to eachother sure dates it but it still doesn't feel that long ago to me

April 1, 20187 yr Watch this soon if you haven't. Even 2-3 years ago it didn't seem so dated, but the flip phones and the lack of information due to no portable internet are starting to seem really antiquated.
April 2, 20187 yr One of my favorite scenes in the entire run was S4’s lunch between Bodie and McNulty. Great microcosm for the show’s excellent nuance between cops and criminals.

April 9, 20187 yr Odd bit of trivia that I picked up on on my second run through, Lt. Mello (Bunny Colvin's right hand man in S3 and later Western District commander) is portrayed by the real Jay Landsman. So this guy: Is played by this guy:

I think that’s what you mean and now I’m having a funny.. wait which way to say that is correct, but the guy pictured in the police uniform (in his role as Bunny’s right hand guy) is in real life the homicide squad leader who is portrayed by the fat guy. Also his balmer accent is great. Also, the dude who looks like Paul Mooney and is killed in the same scene where Omar jumps out the window is the real life inspiration for Marlo’s character. Also Snoop is basically not acting. And Slim Charles is a musician in a DC based go go band.
April 9, 20187 yr I have a buddy who looks a helluva lot like Slim Charles. He’s 6’7” and everything, played ball at USC, but grew up in NYC. /cool starry bra
April 9, 20187 yr Possibly dumb question. Who did Michael kill at the end of S4? Was it supposed to be someone we knew? Earlier, when Marlo tells Chris to whack Bodie and suggests the pup, Chris says he shouldn't do someone he knows. Found it on a Wire wiki, it was the guy that was abusing Bubbs. Still don't know why he was on Marlo's shitlist. Edited April 9, 20187 yr by TwiceHorn
April 9, 20187 yr Elba shoulda played Avon Barksdale and via versa. Wood Harris just doesn't have the gravitas to pull it off. All he does is squint and talk all badass.
April 9, 20187 yr Maybe, but Stringer was the more interesting character. He played it superbly and I can't imagine anyone else playing it. I guess they could have pulled a Hayley Mills and put two Elbas on the screen, but that would be a little weird.
April 9, 20187 yr String was a much more important character to the story imo. And obviously Elba crushed it.

April 9, 20187 yr I finished Season 1 a few months ago but haven't picked it back up while I'm watching all 7 seasons of GOT.

April 9, 20187 yr Another bit of trivia, Colicchio, the high and tight, aggro street cop, is an actual LTC USMCR and has a degree in studio art from Vassar.

Clarke Peters, who played Lester Freamon in The Wire (and Big Chief Albert Lambreaux in Treme), played a junkie in The Corner. Not just any junkie, the big junkie. I read the book before I saw the mini-series. The book is so much better than the mini-series. The show was okay but you should definitely read the book. It has a lot more depth and detail.
April 10, 20187 yr Great show!! It’s been a few years, it’s about time to watch it again. Is it on amazon now? Edited April 10, 20187 yr by Hook1997

April 14, 20187 yr My wife watches Empire, and holy shit there’s good ole Bubs (Andre Royo)! I loved reading about his ‘street oscar’ where a dude handed him a vial telling Andre he needs it more than he does. Casting in that show was unbelievable.
April 26, 20187 yr So, finished the second run through it. As I think was noted at the old place, everything seems to change a little with subsequent viewing. S5, man, really weak. S2 may have been my favorite on this run. I have always been a defender of S2. I suppose everything will change again next time I watch.

The whole run-up from the beginning to the end of Season 3 was to show how Avon's crew was truly being run by Stringer and Avon was just a name to rally it all behind. Avon was just a corner man at heart. Stringer was the true business man. It was casted exactly the way it needed to be.
