May 21, 20241 yr I am watching The Wire for the first time and am just about through season 3. They killed Stringer? Holy crap.

Yeah, that taught me that nobody is safe in The Wire. I watched it for the first time in the 2021-22 time frame. I don't have much time during the week to get through more than one episode, if that, so it took a while to get through all 5 seasons. But it ended up being one of my all-time favorite series. I intend to watch it again at some point, but it's a marathon, and there are a lot of other series to get through first.

Holy crap. you oughta read up on (or find YouTube videos about) how Idris Elba found out Stringer was dying, and how he thought that was the end of his acting career. i was in stunned disbelief when i saw that episode. kinda like the Red Wedding episode of GOT.

June 7, 20241 yr "Got to; this America, man." When an opening scene of a series tells you you're in for an incredible ride. Perfect time for a rewatch. This was a true story relayed to Simon when he was writing Homicide: Life on the Killing Streets. I can’t remember if it made it into the book (the filmed scene may have overtaken the book story in my head), but that book is great. So many wild stories.

I was desperately searching for a new audiobook. I read the backstory. This should be great.
June 10, 20241 yr Got to midway about season 3. Very good show, but I eventually just stopped. Def going to resume while things slow down during the summer.

De’Londa was the worst character on the show. Janice level bad. I can see why Ziggy included that disclaimer. I never thought Namond was smart. Maybe somewhat clever. Definitely not cut out for the street life. He’s probably selling cars in Bethesda, but making a honest living.

They would push him beyond that. 9 hours ago, Incredulity said: to quote Sir Connery ”There goes the next Chief of Police” 100% Bunny got him into the family business With the way Bunny career ended and his feelings on how the department was training new officers, I can't see him doing that. For me, the scene of Namond participating in that school debate screams future lawyer.
June 17, 20241 yr If we're going with the theme of everything is circular and there are replacements for the older characters, Namond is the new Clay Davis.

June 23, 20241 yr The scene where Bunk and Lansman hook the kid up to the copy machine as a lie detector test is so good.
August 13, 20241 yr Just watched that episode. The rooftop scene where Stringer and Avon had fucked each over was sublime. A little bit of reminiscing and guilt, but neither knowing what the other had done.
