  • In my Facebook memories today, a bit of interesting coincidence. Two years ago today, @Jive Turkey and I made the pilgrimage to Anfield to see LIverpool take on...West Ham. 4-1 that day. Hopefully 4-0

This season is just a dream so far. I don't want it to end.

That was orgasmic. Beating those scuzzy cunts at the same time silencing the VAR dipshittery. Great day

Outside of the Club World Cup goal that Monterrey got, Liverpool have had a clean sheet in every game since December 7th. 11 clean sheets since December 7th. 7 since that one goal given up to Monterrey.

Van Dijk is the best defender this generation  Not even sure there is a close second. He’s the best player on the pitch every game.

Results updated.  HUGE game Thursday.

Yeah, Wolves on Thursday is dangerous. That said, our defense has been outstanding for well over a month. And that's the real key this year. It's not Salah and Mane being really great. It's the defense locking down points. Especially after the first part of the year where we were getting into shootouts. Defense has been top notch since December.

The amount of athleticism in our back line when those two play is incredible. Matip is a better CB imo but because of the sheer athleticism of VvD/Gomez we are just so hard to score on. Gomez makes a few more mistakes than Matip but he and VvD seem much more willing to take risks farther up the field because they know that no one is going to outrun their partner to the goal.

"Are you not entertained," read Liverpool's USA Twitter handle after the game at Anfield. On a weekend that witnessed Leicester City succumb to Burnley and Manchester City draw at home to Crystal Palace, Jurgen Klopp's side extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to a massive 16 points with a 2-0 win over Manchester United. Elsewhere, Chelsea continued their abysmal run of form with a shock defeat to Newcastle at St. James' Park.

Two of the most expensive defenders in world football went head-to-head for a corner in the first half. Virgil van Dijk was the winner of that duel with his header finding the back of David de Gea's net in the 14th minute. It was an uncomfortable night for Harry Maguire as the new Manchester United captain was beaten to the ball by Liverpool's towering Dutchman. Mohamed Salah then scored his first goal against Manchester United to settle the contest late. Liverpool have now gone 1,001 days without a loss at Anfield. Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson laid the assist for Salah's goal. The Brazilian custodian now has more Premier League assists than Manchester United's Jesse Lingard this season.

that last part is some rich, corinthian, comedy value.

Gomez's pace covers a multitude of sins. He'll only get better and I believe Matip is going to have a hard time getting back into the starting lineup when he returns.

Gomez is a natural defender with natural gifts of pace and being calm on the ball.  All defenders (except VVD) will take a wrong angle or two in a game and the difference is similar to keepers, everyone notices and the results can be disastrous.  He'll only grow in confidence and experience.  I'm sure Matip sees some things Joe doesn't but he also has six years more experience, the same as Virgil.

When VVD was Joe's age he was in his first year playing for Celtic having completed a move from Groningen.  Guessing he wasn't playing at the same level as Gomez is now.
