That wonderful Russian opening section; those terrifying harmonics; the very French Allegretto; the unusual counterpoint. I'll have to come back to this one. Sadly, Prokofiev is mostly ignored in the standard music history curriculum.

I got into Prokofiev because of his Fifth symphony -- I played it in All-State -- but the fucking violin glissandos in #3 movement 3 might be one of my all-time favorite musical things ever.
