March 24, 20205 yr Guys are going to need a mini camp to get back in shape or they're going to be a bunch of small injuries. If they could get back by Memorial Day/June 1st, I think Silver would be all over that. They should simply make it a 72-75ish season which gives guys enough games (7-10) to knock rust off (it'll have been 3 months since playing a meaningful game) and then have a truncated playoffs. Maybe the first round is old school with a best out of 5. Fuck the 3-4 days off for the Finals. Every other day is the schedule.
March 28, 20205 yr I'm all for just restarting the season OR playoffs in July, having the Finals in August, and adjusting the future schedules to match. I'd much prefer for NBA to start on Christmas day with a great slate of opening games with NOTHING competing against them...and having the season go all the way until June, with the Playoffs and Finals going to August. It'll help baseball kill the summer doldrums, and going strait from Finals to NFL would be awesome.
March 29, 20205 yr Easter Sunday night...another 2 weeks into this shit...we're all about to kill anyone and everyone around us. Give us a reprieve. 20 players. 3 refs. Necessary support personnel. All tested and ok. No one else in the arena. Midwest venue, away from C19. Breen and Van Gundy. on the call. No Jackson. Play an All Star-like game. 48 minutes. Or play any game. Anything. America would kill for it, Silver. Do it.
March 30, 20205 yr The worst idea anyone in the entire world has come up with since this has started. https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/jay-williams-nba-should-hold-playoffs-on-cruise-ships-01e4nsgcfgdv
March 31, 20205 yr They need to just cancel the season now rather than have some gimmicky end to crown a champion. It’s over.
April 1, 20205 yr Bahamas - stage the players, coaches, staff, refs, and their families in accommodations on one of the islands until each one is cleared to hop over the NBA Island - a Covid-free sanctuary. Start playing games. Instead -We will get MJ documentary earlier. And starting this Friday we Players only - 16 NBA players will compete head to head in the NBA 2K Players Tournament. First Round starts this Friday on ESPN

Is anybody really going to recognize the Lakers, Clippers, or whomever as 2020 Champions if they win some bastardized, abbreviated postseason? Even if so, the logistics are untenable. They'd have to test all players, coaches, and critical support staff before every game. Say like 600 people between 16 teams. One person tests positive once and that's that.

Lots of degens out there itching for some action.

April 4, 20205 yr Fuck that, just start the playoffs based on the standings the last week of the season as soon as this is done.

April 4, 20205 yr Yeah, it’s over. Just call it and move on. No need to endanger anyone at this point.
April 4, 20205 yr Damn may have just cost Lebron probably his last chance at a title IMO. I think the Clippers will be better next year, and some young teams are coming up too.

Best chance for the title in decades...and Greek Freak enters free agency in 2021. Time is tight.

April 5, 20205 yr If there is a silver lining to this the ESPYs should only take about ten minutes to air this year.

See a lot of talk about that kind of movement, and it would make TOTAL sense to push the NBA season back 2-3 months. Having NBA in the Summer and leading to the start of the NFL only makes them a bigger/better product.

April 6, 20205 yr Maybe. But the increase in revenue they'll surely see by being the bigger show in in town for those extra months might change their mind. It just makes TOO much sense to not make the move with the regular season now while they'll have the chance IMO.

Kyrie and Durant could be a problem next year if KD comes back 90%+ Philly is still young. Toronto is pretty young. Miami plays good ball. The Celtics are kind of loaded. Definitely hits the Bucks the hardest if the season gets straight up canned. I think the Lakers should be fine. It would cost them a contending year but I don't think their chances would be any worse next season necessarily. Edited April 6, 20205 yr by ztejas
April 7, 20205 yr IF they move straight to the playoffs I think it would be way to risky to do the series format. Too many people, too much movement along too many days. It only takes 1 to throw the whole thing off. I think you would have to go to tournament style 1 and done like march madness.

Yeah because one game series without any games before won’t lead to more chronic musculoskeletal injuries due to rust. Test all the titers and only let the ones who have IgG against the Rona play. That way you don’t have to worry about new infections. Call it the Zombies tournament or something.
April 25, 20205 yr Dangerous assumption that presence of antibodies is equivalent to protection from reinfection or prevention of asymptomatic spread.
April 26, 20205 yr Opening up the facilities to give players a relatively safe place to lift and get up some shots is a far cry from organized practices resuming in preparation for NBA games.

Not really - the testing is the real problem. Once there's better testing, we'll be confident antibodies do mean protection from reinfection. At least for 12-18 months...until the virus has mutated enough. So if you really do have antibodies there's really no reason to think this virus is different from all others - antibodies mean immune for healthy folks. But as the current antibody testing is subpar, assuming is dangerous. I got tested twice (both positive for antibodies) to be sure and had a very clear loss of smell and was exposed several times. I have since treated dozens of patients with C19 and never had any sign of re-infection. I've also been tested for active C19 a few times since to start new buildings and was always negative.
May 3, 20205 yr So I follow Shag on IG and he posted one of those who wins in a seven game series. It was Magic, Kobe, LBJ, Timmy, and The Dream vs Stockton, MJ, Durant, Dirk, and Shaquille. I give it to the Magic team all day long. You?

That's really interesting because the MJ team has the shooting with one gargantuan underneath while the Magic team is more multiple but not nearly as good at shooting. You'd be asking Tim and Dream to guard Shaq but the other would have to be on the perimeter guarding Dirk. It may really be about what time period they may play in.
May 3, 20205 yr Yeah, modern refs or early 90s refs makes a huge difference. But I'm taking the GOAT and the 2 7-foot snipers.
