"Traffic is terrible downtown. What can we do about it?"

"Put up Texas flags for people to look at while they're stuck?"

"Hmmmm...I'm not sold."

"Plus, we can make traffic even worse because we'll have to block traffic to put them up."

"Perfect!!! Let's do it!"

I think there's nothing big going on in Austin for the next 6 weeks or so, those banner holders usually rotate with something topical.

But yeah, typical Austin Council thinking.

"Barton Springs is going to be compressed from South First to South Congress due to construction at the Schulz-Hooters Triangle"

Be a good time to close some lanes in that area for standard road repairs we could have done last year or next year, get on it!  Pronto!

Pronto!

Need them replaced with "THE LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING, ASSHOLE"

That flag is hung wrong. Given the frame of reference with the flow of traffic on that side of the road, the white should be on the left.

When the flag is displayed vertically, the blue stripe should be uppermost and the white stripe should be to the state flag's right (observer's left). The state flag should be flown on all state holidays and on special occasions of historical significance, and it should fly at every school on regular school days.

Austin is just being proactive to when they switch to left hand traffic.

The white zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers only.  There is no parking in the white zone.

Listen, Betty, don't start with your white zone shit again.

City council is flying it upside down as a sign of distress.

Except that looks upside down and backwards to the eyeballs.

Maybe they hang them backwards when Rick Perry is in town.

We both know perfectly well what this is about. You want me to have an abortion.

My BIL and I just happened to be standing on the town square when the city employees raised the flag one day. We had to explain to them the white is always on top.

And the single point on the star is up. Duh.

An apartment complex I lived in post-college had two Texas flags out front, with an American flag centered.  The problem was, on one of the two Texas flags, the star was incorrectly printed upside down.

Instead of just buying a new one, they flew them both, one with an inverted star.  And instead of flying them with the incorrect one inverted, they flew them with the correct one inverted, so both had red over white.

I hated those apartments.

That doesn’t make any sense. If they flew the flag with the inverted star right side up the red stripe would be properly placed on the bottom and just the star would be inverted.

Nope-- they flew the flag with the incorrectly printed star, with star right side up.  Which put the red stripe up.

For the flag with the star correctly oriented, they flew it upside down with red stripe up, to match the other flag they had flying with red stripe up.  So for the correctly printed flag, the star was inverted AND the red stripe was up.  In other words they took their cue from the wrong flag, so both were screwed up instead of just one of them.

Hopefully this story has a happy ending. Like those people died violently or something?

Dont worry guys. We'll get all the surly members who dont live in austin to flood them emails and calls to get those flags fixed. Ya'll wouldnt mind more lane closures, right?

Yeah, obviously it was confusing even to me.  So, the second thing I said, not the first thing I said.
