I like it when local talent stays home.  Loyalty.  Welcome, Lake.

TE is going to be a real strength for this team in the coming years

So we can strike TE off the list of positions we freak out about. This is good.

Running Back for the time being.

Don't forget DT, LB, and, for good measure, CB.

Worth noting, and I'm not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere yet, but he's new to TE; he was the JV QB until the playoffs, and then played TE in the playoffs (five games where he caught 13 passes)

He's really really athletic and I think he's going to be a beast when Yancy gets a hold of him.  Really good get.  Between him, Wiley, and Leibrock, we have some good athletic prospects at TE.

this is a huge blow to Baker's attempt of establishing a pipeline from LT to Norman!!

Harsin would already be drawing up a trick play involving Lake guaranteed to pick up 5-7 yards if he were still at Texas.

Lake played QB until last Fall. He was the starting QB on the freshman B team and then the backup QB on the JV team heading into Fall camp. The coaches talked him into switching to the Y (TE) position for the JV team. He dominated and became the main target of the JV offense. He was bumped up to Varsity toward the end of the regular season and throughout the playoffs where he became the starter due to injury and instantly provided a spark to the offense.

i will add that the first time Lake played TE was in 5th grade when he was on my 7s team at the state tournament. He was a monster target then. 😉

he was on the varsity basketball team as a sophomore as well. the kid is dunking machine.

To Fud's point, he is a good athlete who is already 6'5 and around 220 lbs  but is a raw prospect at the TE position. He has a ton of upside.  He will easily get to 240 -250 lbs at UT. he is a better overall TE prospect than Brewer coming out of LT with a much larger frame. His hands are close to Brewer's. His route running isnt close at this point. He is similar in speed. But Lake will be a more than willing blocker, despite the fact he was a QB, once he learns how to block. he is a tough, hard-nosed kid.

he is one of my son's best friends, is a hard worker, and all around great kid.

Lake can absolutely throw the ball around the field. He might just have the strongest arm at LT but just doesnt have the same feel for the game or make the right reads as the other Qbs.

LT has several trick plays for Lake throwing to Hudson.

Yeah, but is his arm stronger than Wiley’s?

Can you imagine Jackson/Card/Wiley/Lake all on the field at the same time? That's a 4 QB package. Good luck trying to stop that.

i havent seen Wiley throw, but in a surprise pick, imma go with the LT kid!

You wait for the tight ends to fill out before any meaningful PT.
