The personal shoppers are getting out of control and making for a much worse experience. Those giant ass carts are everywhere, blocking shelves and just a general nuisance.
To be fair, the Jeselnik approach does not give a rats ass about the right “venue/audience.”
I don’t post much here but I have lurked heavily since TOS. The draw to this site for me is the humor (good, bad, distasteful) that is tolerated. There are a lot of Jeselniks on this site and just like him they sometimes swing and miss.
I took my two boys (8 and 6) in early July for two days. We spent the first day at the new park and the second at the old. We rode all the big rides first each day and then tooled around on the no line type attractions for the rest of the day. They had the time of their lives and haven’t stopped talking about it. It’s kind of expensive and the lines suck. However, it was the first time my kids have actually thanked me for anything and meant it.
I got an eGo lawnmower for this season on sale at Lowes. I converted to a battery trimmer and blower a few years ago and figured it was time to completely eliminate gas. The concept of the electric mower (no gas, lighter, low maintenance, much quieter) had me sold. At this point I’m ready to throw that $500 hunk of shit in the trash and go back to gas. It leaves random blades of St Augustine all over my yard after each mow. I’ve tried narrower passes, walking slower and not using the self propel. Nothing seems to work and after combing through some forums, it appears this is a known issue.
The Burger House in Colmesneil immediately comes to mind. You can either sit at the one picnic table outside or sit inside surrounded by pictures of every homecoming Queen ever crowned at the high school. Really damn good, greasy burger too.
The Big Store is a full service grocery store albeit a bit more pricey than HEB. They also have a whole bunch of other stuff in there as it’s also a hardware store. It’s actually a pretty cool place.
+1 for Stingaree. There are other restaurants but Stingaree would be my first choice. I hear Steve’s Landing is decent...
Also, this isn’t exactly Galveston and getting back and forth across the ferry may not be worth even trying depending on when you are going. I have seen wait times north of 2 hours in the summer.
Southeast Texas as a whole has probably put out more talent per capita than anywhere else in the state.
The local high schools have had some really good teams. The now defunct Beaumont French was the last team to win state in 1984. The thing with this area is that there has been a lot of individual talent but the high schools are not systems like Katy, Lake Travis, etc. The athletes are better but they aren’t coached the same.
Also, James Brown is the reason why I went to UT.
Darrell’s is the correct answer.
Nina P’s used to be packed at lunch 15 years ago. All of the owner’s daughters and I assume some of their friends were waitresses and they were all smokin hot. Clientele was 99.9% refinery type dudes. Oh and food was pretty good.
Got a hot dog from the Baejarins Beztu Pylsur stand in downtown about 5 years ago. It was outstanding and the only food I can remember in Reykjavik. Had some really good reindeer in Akureyri.
Iceland is awesome but definitely not a culinary destination.
