- RIP Karl Wallinger
As mentioned above, I still listen to this album multiple times a year. But last night, I sat down and really listened to it for the first time in a long time. The entire album is a spiritual ride. This song will be sung at my funeral. What an uplifting message. And it includes one of my favorite lines of all time: "I've got rare '61 Beatles I got a film of my dreams"- Wives and the Stupid Shit They Say/Do
If/when my wife ends up the victim of a freak accident, resulting in her untimely demise, this will be the root cause.- RIP Karl Wallinger
Wallinger seemed to have a major impact on the Waterboys overall sound, but to me, they were still a Mike Scott band. Not that that is a bad thing. I just liked the changes that Wallinger brought into the Waterboys and was curious what he would be once he got out from under Scott. Scott still apparently wrote most of the music, but Wallinger's presence really seemed to change the band.- RIP Karl Wallinger
Waterboys.....Damn, Mike Scott could write a song....- RIP Eric Carmen
Remember watching this on Midnight Special and being amazed at the different hair styles..... I thought, "how do these 5 guys even know each other, much less be in the same band". I think this album (8 track) might have been in my initial Columbia order.- RIP Karl Wallinger
Goodbye Jumbo is a top 10 album for me. I still listen to it at least monthly. So much energy and soul. This song always seems to full of promise and hope. I can never hear it enough and the song ends too soon. Fuck...I have been hit by a 'celebrity' death like this since Petty.- RIP Karl Wallinger
Mother Fucker. After he left The Waterboys, I couldn't wait to hear what he did without Mike Scott. Then I heard this song. I still get the same feeling when I hear it today.....MANY years later. From A Pagan Place: Waterboys From "This Is The Sea"- Wives and the Stupid Shit They Say/Do
THIS is why this thread was started. This kind of shit right here. Well done Mrs. @wackawacka. We salute you!- RIP W.C. Clark
What a band on stage.- RIP W.C. Clark
What a voice....- Truck Nuts
Replaced the brakes at 210k miles in the 2011 Tacoma.- Truck Nuts
I have a 2011 Tacoma. 240K miles. Outside of the shitty radio/CD player, it has been great. Had to replace both catalytic converters at about 150k. Other than than...just replace tires.- Wives and the Stupid Shit They Say/Do
"I bought you some Blueberry Sconces"- Helping your wife through The Change
I watch a lot of Forensic Files to remind me that people always leave clues.- Best (and worst) concept albums
I bought that album because I read Taupin's name on the credits and Marcy Levy sings the duet of Millie & Billie. "And I liked your late husband Donald. But such torture his memory brings. All sliced up and sealed tight in baggies. Guess love makes you do funny things"- Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, and Other Good Stuff
Let's do one without her.- Best (and worst) concept albums
Redheaded Stranger is likely the answer to the question. I've only recently learned about Phases and Stages. Been getting in to it a lot lately. My favorite, by far, is "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" by Elton John. One this is criminally underrated is "From The Inside" by Alice Cooper. Common component is Bernie Taupin.- Wives and the Stupid Shit They Say/Do
FOCUS Motherfuckers!- Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, and Other Good Stuff
After listening...mostly just talking about being in the movie. Oh well.- Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, and Other Good Stuff
.....and why he struggles to write a 'balls out rock song'....- Music Podcasts
I only pay into 3 Patreon sites. The Strong Songs & The Bottom Forty podcasts and Jeff Plankenhorn, because he is just a kickass dude and we need more kickass dudes.- Music Podcasts
One By Willie by John Spong at Texas Monthly. This month's is Bruce Robison talking about "Phases and Stages Theme/Walkin'" from Phases and Stages https://www.texasmonthly.com/podcast/bruce-robison-on-willie-nelsons-saddest-songs/- Wives and the Stupid Shit They Say/Do
