2020-21 Winter weather; bring it on
This is an embarrassment. I know the weather has been unusually cold. Some power outages, rolling blackouts, etc. should be expected. However, what has and is occurring has exposed utter imcompetence. Heads need to roll. This should never happen again. I am ashamed. A week of cold weather, and I feel like I'm living in a 3rd World country. Fucking ridiculous.

Those branches normaly wouldn't even be in view. They're sagging from the ice.

Where are you? I'm not seeing much melting take place. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but at the rate any melting is taking place in my neck of the woods I'd still have snow and ice come July.

None in S. Austin. Gray, cold, and covered in snow and ice.

Woke up, peeked outside. It is coming down. Rain, sleet, frozen rain, whatever. It was icy and slick last night. It's going to be super dangerous out there today. Be careful if you must venture out.

Trying to find the part you need at Home Depot during average times is a crap shoot. They don't keep shit in stock. Best of luck.

Just got back from HEB. Absolute insanity. 30 minute wait outside. Once inside chaos. Barren shelves. No water or bread. Lines to the back of the store.

Hope they've got gas stoves, and/or no power outage.

Look at this shit just outside my building. The water heaters and washing machines on in the little storage space on the balconies. This is obviously unheated space, and two pipes have already burst pouring water off the balconies. Total shitshow.

2020-21 Winter weather; bring it on
So, there are now apartments very nearby me gushing water from their balconies. The water coming from my kitchen sink with both valves fully open is pouring out at about 25% and dropping. I have no power or heat. I've contacted my complex. Is there anything else to do but wait for the inevitable?

Fuck you Austin Energy. There's not anything "rolling" about my power being off for 6+ hours now.

2020-21 Winter weather; bring it on
Everything in my apartment is electric. If only my water heater and oven ran on gas I could deal with no power short term no problem, just an inconvenience. I can't run any hot water through the pipes, I can't make any coffee with my french press, any food has to be eaten cold.... Fuck this shit!

I've got my thermostat set at 63°, and other than my refrigerator, nothing else is using much power. I don't like having my faucets running nonstop, though. I can only guess how many gallons I've wasted trying to keep my pipes from freezing.

Millions of thermostats set to 75° or higher with the entire state below freezing simultaneously.

Lot's of homes like this in the St. Louis area. A friends family had their basement finished out like an efficiency apartment. Very cool.
