Austin Transportation & Roadways
I think St. David's Hospital, the new buildings at the Concordia site, and the cemetery are all off the table for the use of eminent domain. If the entire stretch was lined with gas stations and fast food joints I'd agree, but that's not the case. I suppose we will find out in short order (by massive highway project standards anyways).

Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away
I wondered the same. That number was just total deaths in 2019 divided by 365. I assume that there is quite a bit of fluctuation throughout the year though. I know I've read how almost all flu deaths occur over just a couple of months in a typical year so there's probably a spike over the winter months where most of those 40,000 or so deaths occur every year.

In 2019 the United States averaged 7,767 deaths each day. Does anyone know how many deaths total we are currently experiencing?

Does anyone know a source which shows how many total deaths including Covid are occuring daily in individual states? I ask because I am looking at data in previous years, which for Texas shows about 550 deaths a day for 2018 and 2019. I am curious as to how much Covid-19 has caused those numbers to rise. Here is the link. You can look at the entire U.S., or every state, county, and metropolitan area individually. https://www.recenter.tamu.edu/data/population

I dunno. A needed new basketball arena costing $338 million being constructed with private dollars seems like a dream scenario. Not many cities or universities could ever pull off something like that. I'm not sure I see any potential gains lost. I also think the arena looks fantastic. I don't think the renderings are doing it justice.- Moody Center

- So uh..Austin Subway*, Light Rail Expansions and $3.2 - $10.2 Billion
Goodness, I am relieved most of the folks posting in this thread aren't indicative of Austin's electorate! Austin's moving forward while y'all cling to the past, repeating the same tired rhetoric ad infinitum. This was a historic vote for Austin, and it's citizens made clear what path forward we'll be taking. Vaya con Dios, bitches!- So uh..Austin Subway*, Light Rail Expansions and $3.2 - $10.2 Billion
- So uh..Austin Subway*, Light Rail Expansions and $3.2 - $10.2 Billion
Early voting numbers look very promising that both Prop. A and Prop. B will pass! https://countyclerk.traviscountytx.gov/elections/election-results-1/results-for-november-03-2020-joint-general-and-special-election.html Austin, you fucking rock!- So uh..Austin Subway*, Light Rail Expansions and $3.2 - $10.2 Billion
I just don't understand how it's not simply a supply and demand issue. If you build too much housing, the prices will drop. If you don't build enough the prices will rise. The reason Central Austin is so expensive is because the number of housing units is hundreds of thousands less than the number of people whom wish to live there. This has an effect on the whole market, and is an issue that's been ongoing for decades. The solution is much more housing. I say let them overbuild! I guarantee you when there's a glut of housing on the market prices will stagnate if not begin to drop.- So uh..Austin Subway*, Light Rail Expansions and $3.2 - $10.2 Billion
Supply and Demand. Also read this about filtering. There's also a lot more about the subject on this blog. https://www.austincontrarian.com/austincontrarian/2008/06/filtering.html Also, no one's going to stop Austin and it's suburbs from sprawling. Building a healthy core, and expanding further out are not mutually exclusive.- So uh..Austin Subway*, Light Rail Expansions and $3.2 - $10.2 Billion
You know damn well it's misleading. It's intended to make people believe their property taxes will rise 20 plus percent if they vote yes.- So uh..Austin Subway*, Light Rail Expansions and $3.2 - $10.2 Billion
Oh, the developers who have and continue to develop tens of billions of dollars worth of needed housing and office space in our city adding untold millions of dollars year after year in perpetuity to the city's tax base? The ones who's property taxes subsidize the disposable auto oriented sprawl that pollutes and destroys our quality of life which guys like you cherish? Those guys?- So uh..Austin Subway*, Light Rail Expansions and $3.2 - $10.2 Billion
What's surprising about landowners in the central city wanting to improve mobility near their properties? It's no more surprising than car dealerships contributing big money to defeat the proposition. Can't go and let people have the choice to live car free! Oh hell no, cars for everybody! 16 year olds operating 2 ton machines is a great idea! 4 cars per household if you want to keep up with the Joneses!- terrorist shooting in vienna
Naw, I'm just a really slow learner.- terrorist shooting in vienna
WTF?!? Terrorists attack a city, and most of the replies are about fucking nazis? Motherfuckers have lost their damn minds.- Austin FC
A little off topic, but I just saw this article regarding the stadium under construction in Columbus. It really highlights what an amazing opportunity that Austin nearly squandered in regards to our stadium and training grounds. Just as a reminder, the taxpayers of Austin didn't pay a dime for our $240 million stadium or the $45 million St. David's Performance Center. I still can't believe it was actually a controversial decision in this city. I guess we have to keep it weird... https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2020/10/18/no-financial-reports-tax-money-spent-columbus-crew-new-soccer-stadium-mls/3639934001/- Austin FC
