One of those absolutely sneaky-important plays last Saturday was Beck's great snag over the middle on a third-and-long to set up the fourth and short conversion. It was early in the game and helped Texas take momentum. All hands, too, and had the skill to keep a hand under the ball going to the ground. He's really made strides since Tulsa, especially on the blocking front.
I'm an idiot; of course it's the other team's time of possession. Do you think our more balanced offense has aided in lack of injuries this year? *knocks on wood*
Is there an advanced metric tracking how long a team's defense has been on the field to this point of the season? Maybe @Huckleberry, you would know? I feel like our offense with its sustained drives this year has greatly improved on keeping the defense from tiring. It was mentioned in the OU game about how much their defense had been on the field the prior three games.
Devin Duvernay plays a lot like Quan, just a touch slower in his routes. Should have multiple touchdowns if not for overthrows, including last year in Dallas.
*ducks*
Sermon is a beast, so open field tackling is going to be crucial. I think the game comes down to how well our DBs can cover down the field and if our edge rushers can contain Murray in the pocket. And like every RRS, whoever wins the turnover battle wins the war.
Like all RRS, lesser-knowns will alter the outcome. For my money, Duverney has a huge game and TD on a double move (and Sam makes the throw this year). And I think Brandon Jones creates a Murray TO in the backfield on a blitz.
And here's what should excite you for the future: the '19 DB class will have plenty of room for redshirting and development behind that ridiculous '18 haul that is already up to speed and changing games. And we haven't even really seen what Green or Overshown can do.
It’ll be fascinating to see how we fill out the class this year, esp with real potential to turn heads on the field down the stretch. Hope we can identity some Ojomo late bloomers along the lines.
It's so odd: I feel far more confident we play up to our potential against good teams, especially squads like the cockroaches. This is going to be a close game into the fourth.
