Sedona, AZ
Leaving tomorrow AM. It was -8 here this morning. Highs in the low 60's there. Can't fuckin' wait. Plan to hike the whole loop around Cathedral Rock on Wednesday AM and then do both Devil's Bridge and Oak Creek Canyon on Thursday.

Papers, please. Surly thread of deportation cruelty dominance
There is a wing of ICE that's actually doing legal police work. I come across it in my work (I'm a part time magistrate judge and I occasionally have to see people who have valid Federal warrants against them who get picked up for other charges). But these jackbooted mall cops roaming the streets of Minneapolis (and whatever blue city they get sicced on next) ain't it. These are armed sociopaths, recruited off TV commercials to beat up on "others" of all kinds as part of Cheeto Fatfuck's personal Gestapo. Their Nuremberg is coming someday.

There's a family of Mexican descent down the road from our farm and they have the largest pro-Trump display in the county. I'm all but positive the husband did not enter the US legally. I will have 0 sympathy if their day of reckoning comes.

Thing$ $till not going well for Joe Rogan, I $ee.
I think he has more pull with 18-35 yo men than Trump does

This doesn’t absolve Rogan for the role he played in getting us here, but I’d strongly prefer the God of young MAGA men denounce ICE than support it.

This goes back long before the last election.

Right. Their brain just completely rejects evidence outside of their worldview. I wish they could be bussed into the Twin Cities to watch what's happening in person - without video. My brother lives in an affluent white neighborhood of St Paul, and he sent me a video of his Middle Eastern neighbor down the street on his knees, surrounded by agents with guns drawn. They let him go when he proved his citizenship, but the amount of needless trauma being caused for absolutely no good reason is insane. His wife is of Japanese descent, and despite having been born an American citizen on American soil, is afraid to leave the house right now. She won't even go get groceries, because even though she can very quickly and easily prove her American citizenship, why in the hell would you want to go through that shit?

There are still a lot of people who are stuck inside the right wing spin machine who wholly believe that ICE is only targeting criminals, and that all these reports of just arresting people for no reason other than their physical appearance is just fabricated and made up. The problem isn't that they're evil (I mean, some are). The problem is that they literally think reality is a propagandic lie, and that propaganda is reality. If you believed the same "facts" that they do, it would be reasonable to come to similar conclusions. The problem is they've believe in a version of reality that insists basketballs are rectangles. I don't know how we get past that. I guess the only optimism I cling to is that Germany, Italy, and Japan are all nice places to live today.

I've got a luscious V going from my chest pubes down to my ball fro
Not a particularly quotable scene, but I just absolutely piss myself when Adam Scott drops the ad libbed vocal solo during the acapella Sweet Child O' Mine in the car.

Bob Weir has passed
I don’t ID as a Deadhead, but I love them, and in particular Bob’s entire vibe. IMO his grounding in traditional American music was the lynchpin of the whole damn thing.

ICE activity/raids
Brainwashing/low intelligence too. I try to follow the "don't ascribe to malevolence what you can ascribe to incompetence" rubric, and it's usually accurate. Nothing would make him happier.

ICE activity/raids
Cults die with their leader. The silver lining is that once he dies, the American right is going to completely shatter because all they are at this point is an extension of his whims. It seems like we're permanently lost, but look at how fast Germany, Japan, and Italy rebounded from situations that were infinitely worse than ours.

ICE activity/raids
Is this any worse than 8 million other things he's posted in the past week?
-
ICE activity/raids
A lot harder to identify them in a decade when their Nuremberg happens.

ICE activity/raids
Trump is absolutely begging for a riot. I hope Minneapolis doesn't give him one, because he's just waiting to "take over" they city. Wouldn't shock me if ICE/the administration has undercover agents that will show up to protests and initiate violence.

No. It’s also not the best Bush song.

2025 ReliaQuest Bowl - Vanderbilt vs. Iowa
You guys are learning that Kirk Ferentz is a Jedi who can mind trick his opponents into the most bizarre unforced errors imaginable. It’s absolutely incredible how frequently Iowa benefits from just the absolute most bone headed shit. I can’t see what they’re doing to make it happen, but it can’t be luck. Ergo, Ferentz = Jedi

There are probably 20 Foo songs I like better than My Hero.

Is this the end of shitty bowl games?
The solution is to make players employees, and make bowl participation part of their enforceable contract. Or instead of giving players trinkets, give them half of the money the school/conference gets from being in it. That would immediately solve the problem. Bowls have always been meaningless exhibitions. The difference is that 40 years ago, the media told you how much they mattered, so everyone bought into that. For the last 20 years we've beaten over the head with the message that there's too many, they don't matter, and the only thing that matters is being the national champion. Eventually (players first, then fans) enough people bought into that messaging and here we are. Bowls are something to have on in the background in a slow time of year. They get excellent ratings as a result, and it's more football. On top of that, it makes college football one of the few sports where someone other than the champion has an opportunity to end the season on a high note. Having my team opt out of a bowl game this year has made me realize how much I did actually care about the last part.
