Absolutely. What an inexcusable shit show.

2022 Tour de Francis
What could go wrong, indeed. Already the weather conditions, parcours, and even the damn starting ramp have proven treacherous, as we’ve seen multiple riders slide and have to recover. Fortunately no crashes yet. Hope everyone gets through it intact. Love a TTT, but glad this is a short one.

Snotty Alty Punky Garagey Rock
One of the absolute favorite bands back in the days of my youth in the music scene of D/FW. The recordings could never match their live intensity.

WTF is wrong with you, Marion County, Kansas
Combine this insanity with large “political rallies” around a cult of personality with ambitions of unlimited power and followers eager and willing to grant that power, and you see where this is headed.

Yeah, that definitely sticks out like a sore thumb. I enjoy that it’s not in total alignment with my own opinions and values. I don’t have to be in complete agreement with someone to appreciate what they’re trying to convey, especially when it’s music, literature, or standup comedy. I want to be challenged and question my own bullshit often. It’s that kind of awkwardness and lack lyrical polish that keeps it in the realm of a good song and not a great song. The performance is earnest and the messages are relatable.

These replies resonate with me. It’s nice to read replies consistent with my own experience and observations in the real world confirming I’m not alone. I’m also left of center (very much so by standards of being a white, male, veteran from Texas), but also in a state of continuously attempting to learn and evaluate the world around me. I always loved the lyric from Tom Sawyer, “no his mind is not for rent, by any god or government.” That, along with other literature and music, has reminded me to not buy in to any single philosophy for too long. Keep thinking, keep taking to people human to human, keep looking for common ground. Despite what we see in social media and all types of online forums with people proclaiming their supposed vehement tribal affiliations, the face to face interactions I have with family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors every day tell me that most of us actually live somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. There are a lot of people talking a big game about being “all in” for their tribe, but I know who they are behind closed doors and how hypocritical or not aligned their actions are with stated values of their proclaimed allegiance. That’s a lot rambling to say that I’m glad I’m not the only person who can take the politics of this song as the artist’s own commentary, and not as a prize for someone’s stupid partisan trophy case.

Exactly. My frustration is certainly not with the artist, but rather with the co-opting of a powerful song by people determined to present it as applying exclusively to their specific party or other tribalist identity. I know we’re way past it, but I wish we could use songs like this to find common ground in the human experience instead of “this is proof that our side is right & righteous and the other side is wrong evil.” I guess I just I just foolishly cling to hope that I’ll live to see more people moving towards unity instead of division.

That’s no surprise. I loved the song the first time I heard it a few days ago. It has an authenticity and frustration to which people from all walks of life can relate. I also knew right away that this song would be adopted by the political tribalists on both sides and adopted as anthems for their respective “teams.” I’ve already seen this on Twitter and took a peek at the comments on YouTube. I feel bad for the artist. It’s a good song and people couldn’t wait to ruin it by filtering through their own politics.

Wout was cooked by that point, and I surprised he was able to even make an initial burst and try to get the wheel on MVdP’s attack. Then to hold off Bettiol, Poga, and Pedersen for silver was impressive. Great to see MVdP finally get that world championship.

2022 Tour de Francis
I think I get what G650 is saying. Pog had a great time and a second place finish, but his aero discipline, position on the bike, and overall body language wasn’t the peak, powerful, focused, and relentless Pogacar we expect to see. There was great effort there, but lacking the focus and savagery you see when he’s “on.”

I knew it was an incredible TT by Jonas, but was wasn’t sure if it was historic. Now we know. Vingo is a bad man.

2022 Tour de Francis
Jonas isn’t exactly charismatic, but lumping him in with Froome is pretty harsh, lol.

2022 Tour de Francis
Yep, Pog is gonna have to turn himself and Yates inside out tomorrow trying to break Jonas. We already know that he can gap him with that explosive acceleration, but hasn’t been able to break him. If he has to do that more than a few times on the Loze, that is going to be destructive to himself. The pressure is all on UAE, and I hope they make it exciting. What a race so far.
