¡Snek!
No, very much not a jerk - appreciate the insight. I fully agree, and we don't go hunting venomous snakes. Even the coral snakes we've found in the wilder parts of the neighborhood get left alone. However, in neighborhoods, when found around my house, means that if I leave them alone, they'll be back around my house at some point. Those snakes have to die, because I cannot guarantee that my 5yo is capable of watching where she steps, or not sticking her hand into a shrub, or even just playing in a shady spot where a baby rattler might be coiled up away from the heat (happened yesterday to the neighbors across the street, their dog found one).

thanks - just submitted my join request. It's been a VERY active season around our neighborhood (SW austin, off of SW Parkway). 3-4 baby rattlers, 3-4 adult corals, and more rat and garter snakes than I can ever remember. We've got a good group of parents (dads and moms) that look out for the good snakes, and this can only help.

Is there one you can recommend for Austin / the hill country?

That reddish hognose wouldn't have caused me confusion. But that's not at all what the hognose posted by Austinvines looks like. The one Austinvines posted is tan and brown, and the pattern resembles the hourglass markings of a copperhead (resembles being the key word). You can be a jerk about it, or you can support folks like me who logically understand the need for good snakes, and understand their place in the ecosystem, but who also have kids and want to keep them safe.

I'm thankful for this thread. I'm all about letting good sneks live, but that hognose looks for all the world like a copperhead to me. As I see more pictures of both, the differences in pattern are getting more clear, and I'm trying to be mindful and learn. But I can say that I might have killed it, too (hopefully I won't now).

The all encompassing RV thread
I think we might have settled on Red River - https://www.4kredriver.com/. 75degrees average high in August, and easy trips to Taos, Alb/SF, or even up to CO if we wanted. `~950 miles from Austin, so an easy two days pulling each way.

The all encompassing RV thread
Hi team .. looks like the wife and I are going to rent an RV for about 10 days in August, to try and get away from the Texas heat. We've got some experience with the technical side of things, as we've borrowed my in-laws bigfoot several times for smaller trips. What I really need are specific destination recs, coming from Austin. Thinking of Taos/Angel Fire area, or possibly pushing on farther north to either southern CSprings (like Manitou Springs maybe), or going SW Colorado Pagosa Springs or Wolf Creek. Would love specific recs for nice/fun/adventurous RV parks, or other fun towns that we maybe haven't thought of in that general distance away from Austin. We're pretty flexible on time, but the goal is to make the drive in two days, stay for 5 or 6, and make the drive home in two days. KOA outside of Lubbock is the current thinking for the mid-way(ish) point. We want hookups wherever we stay - don't wanna mess with generators if we don't have to. thanks!

You aren't far off. If I could putt, I could be a REALLY good player. (incoming humblebrag) I hit 14 greens last week at Star Ranch, and had 31 putts to shoot 68. That's a damn good round, and I"m not doing any complaining. But I also missed putts between 15-25' on 2, 3, 4, 8, 11, 13, 15, 16, and 18. I'm not saying I expect to make ALL, or even most, of those, but it could have been a lifetime round if even a few of those go in. I don't miss many 3 footers, but I don't make any bombs either. The putter I"m holding doesn't seem to make much difference; it's not the tool, it's the mechanic.

The D66 made miles of putts. It missed miles of them, too. Real talk, I game a Golo5, and I just keep going back to it. The fastback was supposed to be the replacement, but it just doesn't sole quite right and I can't find the sweet spot. The Studio Select was an experiment - doesn't fit my eye at all, even though that GSS insert feels amazing. The D66 was my gamer for 4-5 years, and still looks awesome behind the ball, but not as good as the GoLo. The taylormade was a fling, just a thing I tried one time, it doesn't define me, I don't want to talk about it.

Cleaning out my putter rack. Some bangers here, but also two choice Scotty's. If the putter is still listed here, it's still available; don't ask if it's still available, I won't respond. All putters in SW Austin, payment in-person cash or venmo. Prices are realistic; please don't lowball, but reasonable offers will be considered fairly (esp if you want more than one of these putters). I have some other pics if you want them. Also on CL - https://austin.craigslist.org/spo/d/austin-putter-lot-scotty-cameron/7138671147.html. $285 - Like new Scotty Cameron Select Fastback (2018 model I believe). Purchased with pro shop money from a tournament, I played with this for one round, and maybe 100 putts on the practice green. Always covered. This is basically new. 20g weights, 33" length (from the factory). Original headcover, original matador grip. $185 - used Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2.5, with the GSS face insert. Prices for these putters range WILDLY based on condition, but they're really hard to find overall. This one is used, has nicks on topline and back (bag chatter mostly). No gouges, nothing on the face. The ring around the insert has a nick on the top, but it's not in the strike zone and it's not deep. Plays about 34", used but still solid Iomic white grip. Paint fill on the bottom (red-yellow-blue-green) is flawless. Prior to my owning it, the paintfill on the neck and the bullets on the back was changed to Orange. It's all there and looks great, but it's not original. No headcover. $115 - used Ping Redwood D66 Red Dot putter. Black sating finish, 33", ping PP58 grip (the "og" small ping grip, that Tiger uses). Very solid example of a nice used upscale ping putter. Wear consistent with it being the primary gamer for 2-3 years - no gouges, no major nicks, but some bag chatter and bottom-wear. Not at all abused, and priced below comparable examples on eBay. Has headcover, but is not original I don't think. $40 - TaylorMade Rossa Monte Carlo 7 center-shaft putter. 33", like-new super stroke ultra-slim 1.0 grip. This putter is definitely used but is in perfectly playable shape. No nicks or gouges, just bag chatter and bottom wear. I was experimenting a little bit with counterbalancing, so this putter has about ~6g of weight underneath the grip, at the top/butt of the shaft. Easy enough to remove. Original headcover.

Sigh ... verb (used with object), dec·i·mat·ed, dec·i·mat·ing. to destroy a great number or proportion of: The population was decimated by a plague. to select by lot and kill every tenth person of. Obsolete. to take a tenth of or from. (the best part of this is your pedantic reference is flagged "obsolete").- 2020 Golf Thread of Disappoint Yourself
I LITERALLY meant that figuratively. It's down 50% from where it was two fucking weeks ago.- 2020 Golf Thread of Disappoint Yourself
I'd bet dollars to donuts that with this swing feel, you aren't outside the line at all, but actually on-plane. The really good players play with the club well out in front of their chest, which to normal folks feels like you're shoving it out away from your head like an idiot. It's fascinating to see/feel, right @chitwood?- 2020 Golf Thread of Disappoint Yourself
Fuck this game, and also I love this game. A month ago, buddy and I played at Falconhead and neither one of us (both single-digit handicaps) couldn't find the clubface, much less the sweet spot. Both shot low 90's (easily do-able out there from the back tees). Cut to last sunday - Shot 68 at Star Ranch. Five birdies and two bogies, and really had very little stress all day. Cut to this morning at Star Ranch. Another fucking 68 - four birdies and a lone bogey, and a first-time achievement in my life, a scorecard with no 5's on it. Chipped to a foot on 5 for birdie, two putt birdies on 13 and 18, and my lone bogey was on 12 (par 3, score 4). Crazy game, and those last two rounds have DECIMATED my handicap.- Golf clubs - TS3 driver, Rogue driver, 816 H2 hybrid, cobra driving iron, Mizuno JPX900Tour irons, more
