Fuck Jim Jordan with a red hot poker.
The last year and a half has felt like a decade and just when I thought we'd hit rock bottom we keep discovering another cliff we're tumbling over. I hope this is all a dream from which I will wake up with a plot for a book that will be soundly rejected by all publishers due to its preposterous machinations. "No one will believe this tripe!"
Is Beto Hispanic? I know he's fluent in Spanish, but was not aware he was Hispanic. I'm in CA, so not seeing as much about that race out here obviously.
An example of the technique of packing. The other is cracking. Lots of good examples out there how gerrymandering can extremely skew representation. Wikipedia has a few examples as well.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerrymandering
Are there good cases to be made for gerrymandering? The voting rights act has been cited in the past in trying to craft districts where minorities are more likely to get a seat at the table, so to speak. But the current state of affairs has made it clear that attempting to allow a technique for "good" reasons opens up Pandora's box to a whole lot of shit.
Political districts should never be drawn up by the politicians.
We're headed for a recession no matter who does what. It will happen. No one knows the exact details.
What we all know is that when it happens Trump will blame Obama and the Democrats. That is certain.
Perhaps the most significant question is, did it work? Sadly, I think the answer is no.
I was not actually watching the game at that point and my wife pointed out that some people had run onto the field stopping play. She indicated that the cameras eventually were turned away from the folks on the field so as not to encourage such antics in the future. Thus, chances of getting a message out were neutralized. Neither she nor I had any idea there was a political message behind the ploy until I read this article.
So, if Russia follows the same playbook in Estonia they've utilized in Crimea, Ukraine and Georgia then Trump turns a blind eye. Great.
And Estonia is one of the NATO allies that actually does spend more than 2% of GDP on defense. Right now.
It concerns me that people have this notion that one has to pick a side, left or right. Believing that to choose a moderate stance in the middle is a dereliction of duty on the part of the citizen is killing this country. Fewer people in the sane center these days I fear.
A CEO of a publicly traded company may have a shot. Those types of positions require a certain level of political acuity in dealing with a large number of investors who sometimes want different things from the person at the top.
The head of a family company with effectively no shareholders is a completely different type of animal. There are essentially no shareholders, at least not any outside of the family. The CEO of that entity can rule as a tyrant with little danger of being deposed. Should it be a surprise that such an individual, when transitioning to public office, might attempt to apply the same conditions to their new role?
They should get rid of all of them. And I've always been a bit spooked by the eery Presidential photos that loom behind an Ambassador's desk or in other official federal locations. Iconoclast the shit out of all of them. They serve the country. Put a damn flag up. Save some money by not having to get something new framed every 4-8 years.
Wait. Are we talking about US policies with respect to other nations of the past, or are we talking about the US itself in the present and near future?
I was hoping someone on the coverage would address this. Having one or two guys hit lights out can be luck of the draw in recruiting talent. Having the entire lineup hit over .300 is confounding. Yeah, their conference is not a Big 5 conference, but their batting abilities don't seem to be settling down too much now that they're going against larger schools.
I kept asking, who is their batting coach, and how much does he make?
