  1. Well, if any of them or their family members get picked up for being brown, they'll get a current event update. Sucks, but that's where we are as a nation, and that's who they are representing. Again, it blows for Olympians, because it runs contrary to how America with Jesse Owens trashing the Nazis in the Berlin Aryan games in 1936, was seen as a win for freedom and democracy. But I'm pretty sure a few will have something to say on the world stage when they're being awarded. I believe some will remind the world about the ideals they support as champions. I only recently learned about sundown towns from friends that took a cut short vacation to a coastal town here. I suspect that's how it is in quite a few "blue" states, but I hope I'm wrong. The elderly whites in my neighborhood have their views which are racist as hell. So I looked it up, and yup, my town which has been brown for a while, was formerly a sundown town. But it doesn't help that currently, the biggest divide in our town is between the minorities. I'm a Democrat because I believe in rights for the masses, but those same masses hate each other. I'll stop my drive by into depression now. Keep grinding towards the light.
  2. It was comforting knowing he was still around. Great guy and hangout. Doug'll be missed.
  3. I followed you a few years later and caught the tail of end of affordable Austin. I could work for a summer and pay housing for the year, work study paid bills, groceries and tuition. Amazing time. Edit: And because it's the Tech thread, can Tech really claim to be in the playoffs if they didn't score a point? I mean, sure, there was cheering involved and there's a box score that shows a game was played, but do they now cast in bronze or frame the check stub?
  4. Question Patricio, and you've prolly answered already, but do you always ask to photo someone or do you shoot from the hip? I've got a buddy that subscribes to the philosophy of it's easier to ask forgiveness than for permission. Seems rather dickish, but I've lost quite a few really cool images because I didn't want to intrude. I take the metro some, and there are scenes and characters that are amazing. How much are people usually content with if it's a few bucks? I may start carrying singles or fivers again.

    Barn owl is smaller too.
  6. As pointed out by others, he really is Hermanesque in so many ways.
  7. I'll be interested in the Vegas line this week. In my lifetime, I've watched a lot of seemingly sure things go Hindenburg. I love that VY beat a team with two Heisman trophy winners and a NC win. In my view, Indiana will be the first favorite with less. Can most list Indiana's players beyond the qb?
  8. Cignetti is a witch play caller. There's no way he's hamstrung by a bad offensive line coach--can't afford to be. He has to be hitting on all cylinders to get the jump, and guys have to perform because they won't out talent teams. They can't lose individual battles. But it helps having a game changing qb that can erase mistakes too. It'll be interesting to see how his teams look going forward after they lose proven players.
  9. Miami has more talent, but they will need to keep their heads. They lead in penalties, and they'll start the game without a safety who got tossed for targeting. Stupid play against Indiana will be costly.
  10. How many practices would it take to get this level of execution? They do what they're supposed to do--make contested catches, don't turn the ball over, no stupid penalties which demands focus and team above individual, and they have a mobile qb as a coach on the field that makes every throw, which requires maturity. Miami's gameplan is going to start with hitting the qb as much as possible, legal or not--make the refs call. They're going after the driver.
  11. Turning over a silver lining--if Texas is offering more for linemen, then they will get a few. They should land some, or their messaging, including messenger, is hot garbage. Most of the teams dotting the college landscape aren't and have never been contenders, and their players know this. Get 4 or 5 linemen. I hope Texas lands some sooner or.... By the end of this weekend, we should know more about Sark, especially if they don't pull any linemen from the portal. As in, does he feel good enough about his offensive genius to game plan around a thin, offensive line? Because if he does, and can't see the risk staring him in the face, then he's blinded by loyalty to a fault. Flood can recruit who he wants, but needs to show that his room is fully operational and ready to contend. Something, something performance reviews.
  12. I was told Sark could now concentrate on the offense.
  13. Turnip is going to fabricate some kind of last minute mess that requires his direct payoff or the games get cancelled.
  14. I'll just say in advance, that if this happens, I won't be renewing my Surly subscription.
  15. Plus, wouldn't they charge per visit, to gauge real interest?
  16. Arch is all grown up—transformed this season before our eyes. Balled out today. Who wouldn’t want to take handoffs or catch passes and benefit financially from this manchild?
  17. That was a collective effort of suckage--the offense went 3/11 on third downs, rushed for 52 yards at 2.0 ypc, gave up a safety off a blocked punt, Manning was sacked 6 times by a team that only had 3 sacks total up to then (4 games), 70 yards worth of penalties (albeit not all on offense), and 2 ints. Sark was lucky Manning wasn't seriously injured in that game. In the first half, the offense scored all of 7 points. And despite it all, Texas still had a slim chance to stay alive at the end. This was a game that effectively helped begin to reshape Sark's offensive scheme for the rest of the year, along with the offensive line. Had Sark won, who knows what dumb shit we would've witnessed against OU. And while I like the Muschamp hire, I hope in the end, PK serves as a stop gap coach in the grand scheme, a defensive coach that bridged between roaming the desert and an eventual championship defensive hire. But Sark's still going to have to fix his offense, and it starts with blocking.
  18. That has to be a troll harking back to a 1939 championship mentality. Where to even begin..
