Texas Recruiting Notes 2020
This seems to have come out of nowhere, right?

I was referring to multiple changes in offensive coordinators in the years during and around Strong where players had to learn a totally new system each year, which over time would have a negative impact on draft picks from Texas. Obviously, it would have been better to have a great system and stick to it and, since we had a bad system, it needed to change. However, there is a cost to that change, in that most players had to learn a new system and come didn't fit the new system each time a change was made and either transferred or faded into the background. One net result of many years of consecutive system changes is that you can expect that the number of draft picks during that time would be lower. I am not arguing whether or not the changes should have been made - I am just pointing out that constant system change (especially due to poor performance) was a contributor to a lower number of draft picks. Additionally, just because the program went through turmoil from 2010 - 2016, doesn't mean in itself that the program will continue to endure turmoil. If we do continue to do so, it will be because of the performance of the current coaching staff and players.

You being Greg Davis and SydneyCarton being Todd Orlando explains a lot, actually.

Beck seemed to spend most of the game talking to three women.

We get how you feel. It seems like you’ve been telling us all morning. Maybe go get some exercise...

You asked what the arguments are. I gave you some. Not really interested in debating them individually with you... just pointing out that there are plenty of things someone who wanted to sell the program could say. Some whiny fan on the internet is seeing things only through an emotional lens is going to poke holes regardless. It’s on this site every day. While it’s somewhat understandable, constantly spewing negativity like all is lost isn’t helping.

Well, you seem sad, so just to provide you with some arguments that someone who doesn’t give up so easily might use: It makes no sense to disregard the non-football selling points, those are part of the decision. This list would be way longer... This staff is entering the 4th year, stats and draft history beyond that is irrelevant. No person has even had the opportunity to be recruited by Herman’s staff, developed for 4 years, and drafted. Mack Browns last years left the program with insufficient talent and then we had two coaching changes in 4 years and who knows how many coordinator changes. Chuck Strong was the worst coach in school history. None of those factors tell us anything about how this staff can develop players. Yancy McKnight is showing physical development results, which are measurable. Texas will always be a big name program, which provides ample opportunities to showcase your talent. The road to a national title is theoretically easier from the Big 12. The program is stocked with highly rated recruiting classes, so there is talent around you. You won’t have to do it all yourself and iron sharpens iron. However, some positions are thin, there are opportunities for playing time. Texas has the resources to hire the best coaches and resources to promote your development. you can be part of the legacy team that helps the program turn the corner state pride and help us show that Texas HS football has the best players In 2018, we won the Sugar Bowl. This year we’ve been plagued by injuries. The program is generally on an upward trend. We feel our coaching can be improved, so we’re making changes at coordinators and some position coaches to go hire the best. sure some programs are already functioning at a higher level, but they can only play so many people at once. Smaller schools don’t maximize your exposure

Ooh, I love a good deal. I’ll send one of the staff to pick some up and have my chef prepare a recipe.

Screw it, let’s make him DC.

Mehringer fired, Beck, Meekins reassigned
ADs probably normally try not to intervene but they're usually (and CDC is) the interface to the big money boosters. If enough of those guys are making demands and making cash contingent upon it, the AD would have no choice but to relay those demands onto the HC. If either fails to accommodate, those same boosters can decide maybe its the next guy up the chain who needs to be replaced. I think this is one reason why Texas struggles to succeed with coaches bc there is so much money and a lot of powerful egos at play. It leads to a lot of management by committee, which isn't a good thing. CDC has the skills to manage it as long as the product on the field isn't horrible (which it is).

So...about Charlie Strong at USF...
The waffle has been stomped

OC Wish List
So is he related to Sam or not?

No, but that class is loaded and we have a massive head start due to Milroe. Would be an especially bad year to take the hit. 2020 would be preferable if it has to happen at all.

2021 is not a good recruiting year to go through a HC transition...

Has anyone been fired yet?
Doubt we are staying with two WR coaches

Les Miles fired his OC after like 3 games and Herman is tolerating one of his coaches blowing up his whole roster and bad mouthing him behind his back all season?

The Man in the High Castle (all seasons)
I think he’s got a role in season 2 of Lost in Space

Herman hiring Graham Harrell seems like a poor immediate fit. I don’t think the air raid would be real successful here next year, and that’s a year that will need to show improvement for Herman to keep his job. Sam’s strengths are mobility, toughness, and ability to adlib. His accuracy is pretty mediocre to poor. Our receivers that will be left all seem to drop a lot of passes.

Put it on a glossy image with the hashtag "#ThisIsTexas"?

Urban Meyer or bust
I wouldn’t expect him to stay long but if we had a few successful seasons in a row and were in NC contention, it would be easier for the following coach to maintain than build it up.
