  1. I didn't say we would beat or be favored against every team, though. We know Ohio State and Georgia would be favored. I don't need to debate about Indiana, Oregon, Ole Miss, or Bama, because it doesn't matter. Even if we assume those six teams should be ranked ahead of Texas, that still makes Texas a top ten team. The rest are "the obvious" (to borrow your words), but just to be thorough, we beat Vandy, ousux, and aggy, and we have a better record than ND against common opponents. Tech has no common opponents because of its incredibly weak schedule. You cannot say with a straight face that Vegas would project Tech to beat Texas. That's just reality. The same can be said for BYU. Miami is the closest call because it has a better record and beat the only common opponent (Florida) albeit not at the swamp. If we grant that Miami should be ahead, just to be conservative, that means seven teams clearly should be ranked ahead of Texas: Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana, Oregon, Ole Miss, Alabama, Miami. The remaining teams (Vandy, ousux, aggy, ND, Tech, BYU) might have better records, but they would not be favored against Texas because Texas is a better team with better athletes, and Texas has already beaten half of them.
  2. For what? I already told you, among the 13 teams ranked ahead of Texas by the AP, Texas is better than at least four: three teams it already beat (Vandy, ousux, aggy) and the teams you already agreed it would be favored against (Miami, Notre Dame, BYU). If you think Tech would be favored, you'd be in the minority.
  3. Texas Tech has not played anyone good, and despite that, they aren't undefeated. They would not be favored against any SEC playoff team, and would not be favored against Texas. In fact, I would even say that Tech would struggle against Tennessee and Florida.
  4. They have no chance of winning without Kiffin or any of his staff.
  5. That only lessens the impact of "punishing" teams who lose their conference championship games. Sark is right that if Texas had gone to Louisville instead of Columbus there would be no debate. So would you rather "punish" teams who sign up for tough OOC competition but fail to win, or do you want to "punish" teams who make the conference championship but fail to win? Remember that if SMU had beaten Clemson, SMU probably wouldn't need to go on the road (in other words, they were "punished" with a lower seed for losing to Clemson)
  6. Well, for starters, Texas has already beaten three of the 13. Who's left? Indiana, let's call that one a wash. (Personally I think we smoke them) Oregon, let's call that a wash, too. (Same) Texas Tech, I have no doubt we would crush them, and Vegas would agree. Lubbock, Jerryworld, it don't make a shit. Texas by 20+ (Wh)ole Mess, call it a wash. Notre Dame, we have a stronger record against common opponents (2-0 vs. 1-1) Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State, I'll concede they'd be favored. BYU? We would be favored by two scores. Miami? We would be favored as well. Do you think anything I just said is outlandish?
  7. Why not? It happened all the time in the BCS days.
  8. It's just true. Can you name ten teams ranked ahead of Texas that would beat Texas?
  9. and if Georgia wins in Atlanta? Then what?
  10. Would Texas have lost to Florida if they'd benched Stroh and moved Hutson to Guard? If Malik Muhamad was available to prevent Dallas Wilson from racking up 100+ yard receiving and 2 TDs? I doubt it. if we're going to nitpick the win against OU because of Mateer's health we also should be willing to nitpick the loss at Florida. But you don't need to do any of that because deep down everyone knows that no matter what the records say, as of November 30, the Texas Longhorns are a better team than, and would beat (and in the case of three of them, have already beaten) most of the 13 teams the Coaches and AP have ranked ahead of them
  11. But it's totally cool to lose to Florida State
  12. Common opponents: Georgia, Vandy, Oklahoma Alabama Record: 2-2 Texas Record: 2-1 By the SEC's own tiebreak procedure, Texas would be ahead of Alabama.
  13. We did not. We let our foot of the gas, but we did not "struggle."

The Kiffin sage has bored me to death. What a drama queen. Makes Mack Brown look stoic in comparison.
  15. AP and Coaches either overreacted to the Georgia loss or correctly reacted to the Georgia loss, and those same voters clearly underreacted to the Texas A&M win. That's obvious bias, and they know damn well that they're being hypocritical.
  16. It's a factory for annoying mormon QBs who have breakout games against Texas. If we need Tech to beat them, there's a good chance the mormon football gods will order up a soak session for a big xii title
  17. It just means more when you're at home and barely beat a terrible LSU team
  18. I'm never thrilled to see the UTEPs and SHSUs but I always figured it was some kind of charity deal to them
  19. You're not ready to see another white dude gain 250 rushing and 250 passing?
  20. The other part of this discussion is the difference between judging who the twelve best teams are and judging what the twelve best records are. If all we're doing is judging records, Texas is a bubble team, on the outside looking in. But anyone who actually watches these games would know that especially once we benched Connor Stroh and moved Cole Hutson to Guard the Longhorns are a much better team than the team who lost in Columbus and Gainesville. Vandy has lost to the post-switchup Longhorns, and Oklahoma lost to a version of the Longhorns that is even worse than the current version. So has aggy. The loss to Florida has to be accounted for, of course, but the correct way to account for that loss is not by pretending Longhorns in November are a worse team than they actually are by pretending that teams like Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Utah, and BYU are better. Or even if we're being honest, Notre Dame, who is 1-1 against common opponents that Texas is 2-0 against. March Madness sucks. We hate 16 seeds
  21. Are you sure? https://collegefootballplayoff.com/sports/2024/5/29/12-team-format.aspx Shit, I guess you are right. They aren't obliged to grant a bid to the ACC champ unless no more than four other conference's champions are ranked higher. If Duke beats UVA it's possible that two G5 champs would be ranked higher than Duke in the final rankings and that there would be no representative from the ACC, or that the only representative would be Miami.
  22. If they want to put us in, they will find a way to do it. Only question is who gets fucked over in the process, and how much blowback there would be. Every P4 champion gets an automatic bid, and the highest-ranked G5 gets an automatic bid. That means a G5 plus either Duke or Virginia will take up a spot. Notre Dame will also take up a spot since they are leading Stanford by 32 points before halftime. That's nine remaining spots. Ohio State and Indiana are locks, that's seven remaining spots. Georgia is a lock. That's six remaining spots. Ole Miss is a lock. That's five remaining spots. The Big XII champ is a lock. That's four remaining spots. Texas A&M is a lock. That's three remaining spots. Oregon is a lock. That's two remaining spots. Teams whose seasons are over, fighting for those two spots, in no particular order Oklahoma (2 loss), Vandy (2 loss), Utah (2 loss), Miami (2 loss), Texas (3 loss) Teams whose seasons aren't yet over, also able to clinch one of those two spots: Alabama (2 loss - can win SEC auto bid), BYU (1 loss - can win Big XII auto bid), Texas Tech (1 loss - can win Big XII auto bid) I think Utah is easy to fuck over, so they're out. I think the ACC is weak as hell, but leaving Miami out is going to be hard to justify. The harder part is justifying putting Texas over Alabama, Oklahoma, and Vandy, especially when there are already three SEC teams in. If Georgia beats Alabama, that helps a bit, but there still needs to be a willingness for the CFP to put a 3-loss Texas over 2-loss Vandy and Oklahoma. The head to head helps a lot, but are they willing to take criticism from those fanbases? Vandy is flush with cash, and Oklahoma is a blue blood. The amount Texas jumps for beating A&M is going to provide a lot of insight into how they are leaning. We need to hope for UVA and Georgia to win out. Texas Tech over BYU, too, although I feel like they won't want to include any 2-loss Big XII team regardless if that loss was in a conference title game. B1G title game doesn't matter much except for determining who has to travel and where to. I've done more than my fair share of criticizing Sark this season, but I will give him credit for knowing exactly when and how hard to begin lobbying for his team. I hope CDC and the BMDs are doing everything in their power behind the scenes to prevent Arch Manning from having to play in a shitty bowl game.
