  1. Is that in reference to the voter id bullshit (AKA the stop women from voting act) they're trying to pull, or something else/additional?
  2. The average cost to mine a single Bitcoin is now over $90,000. The price of Bitcoin has collapsed to $67,000. Everyone mining Bitcoin at the moment is losing a fortune. If Bitcoin had intrinsic value the "bottom" would be the cost to manufacture, at the least. You have to be a ffr to think we're at some magical bottom. It's only going to get worse as both computational power and electric prices increase. Does anyone see a bottom?
  3. definitely should be nominated for one of the funniest political ads ever - US Senate GA

  6. the enshittification of sports ...is why I adore the purity of college football, which lacks corruption and is always played for the love of the game https://prospect.org/2026/02/02/feb-2026-magazine-sports-behind-the-bleachers/

they sure fucked up the clarity of this article by not quoting @Brisketexan extensively
  9. Turnout was strong for a runoff. It's just much lower than a general election. The special election in November with multiple candidates for that Senate seat saw 115k voters. So the 95k votes yesterday for the run-off was an impressive turnout.
  10. Yes, perhaps the poorly implied context was it'll be much higher in November. Kelly Hancock (R) received more votes in 2022 for the R side than the total cast for both candidates in the election yesterday.
  11. Farris is a TCU poli sci prof on the Rehmet campaign: "The most important part of the campaign was that Rehmet ran as a union man. Rehmet is a union president, and this was an unapologetically pro labor campaign."
  12. Last D to win SD 9 was Chet Edwards, who won the 1985 election, retired from the Senate in 1991 when he won a US House seat, and was succeeded in SD 9 by a pompous bastard named David Sibley. Turnout yesterday was only 15% so the Rs do have a way to excuse their huge loss yesterday.
  13. 32 point over-performance with 94% counted
  14. interesting
  15. There's not a county update due for another 15 minutes but there's gossip.
  16. Sylvester Turner's old seat
  17. You can take Evan Smith's word for it, along with that of a tea party nutter from the area, Burton.
  18. not to mention if any special sessions are called. There are also advantages to incumbency so to think the R candidate didn't really try because they get to trot out there in November 2026 with the stench of being a loser is absurd.
  19. The D candidate would have won in November but he barely missed a simple majority, 47 to 35. The election is being held because the previous office holder resigned to become the state comptroller. Republicans have held this district for more than ten years. They're holding this election for a seat in the Senate because all voters have a right to be represented in the Senate.
