Data Migration - Bulk Renaming
We are readying to move our files to the cloud and are concerned about an issue that I am hoping the braintrust can help us with. All of our equipment is Mac - including our in office server. Mac allows naming conventions that windows will not. one of our paralegal has saved files with back slashes for YEARS, along with other special characters. Is there an app/program/whatthefuckever that will locate replace these special characters like find-replace in word? Moving 4-5 TB of data to the cloud is going to be a beating if it keeps stalling when bad file names are thrown at it.

Law Office IT question
I appreciate the responses. I agree with the versioning and those issues are of concern. our IT guys have said sharepoint (sister service) offers more robust features to address those concerns. dcbd - I am contemplating all of our files residing in a onedrive parent folder on our mac mini/server. I already have access to any files that are on the mac mini through the local network. So - instead of looking in /macmini/f-drive/Cases/2019/ (or whatever the actual file path is) - it would be macmini/onedrive/cases/2019 I don't see why that wouldn't work.

Law Office IT question
Surlians I have been at my current firm for a little more than 2 years and in that time our docket has grown by nearly 30%. We are an all apple environment with each of 7 workstations being an iMac or MBP. We utilize Microsoft Office Suite - desktop versions, though we have a O365 subscription. Our data is saved on external hard drives connected to brand new mac mini via thunderbolt which acts as our server. Our IT guys (third party consultant types) upgraded our server when we moved offices several months ago and we REALLY REALLY struggled with the new server maintaining uptime/connectivity. After hundred+ hours of research, it appears that it is a limitation of the newest version of the server app for the macmini. Our data is not really accessible remotely, though I can VPN with my MBP. I am limited by copper data lines for our building and, if everyone is on and working, VPN is not super reliable and is quite slow when we have large files to move from the server to my MBP when offsite. We are FINALLY going to an office/practice management solution - Clio. I am stoked about its functionality. It has integration with onedrive, outlook, etc. I am loathe to suggest we change what people know as they are already going to hate me for making them (or at least the dinosaurs of our office) change what they do and how they do it. What I would like to know, but have been unable to get much of a straight answer from our IT guys about, pertains to onedrive and "sync". If I successfully migrate all of our data to the cloud/onedrive - can I have it "sync" to the server storage (attached hard drives) and have the data available on a local network that mirrors the cloud? Making changes via the cloud - O365 web applications - will be reflected in the attached local drive? Making changes via desktop applications and documents saved on the local network in the onedrive "sync" folder will be reflected in the cloud? As a whole, our case files are approximately 5 TB of data. We can't sync those to our individual machines. So, thats why I am wondering about the ability to have them "sync" to the server where they already reside with plenty of space.

How long should a mower last?
I live in Boerne. Wal-Mart has it. like $3 a gallon. When compared to tru-fuel, its a steal.

How long should a mower last?
i second the ethanol free gas from Murphy. Well worth the extra money and haven't had any issues starting power equipment after a long period of non-use since switching. I too had to rebuild a power washer and learned my lesson.

2016 Yukon - AC Issue
ours was just covered by warranty repair - no hammering necessary

2016 Yukon - AC Issue
AC condenser is bad. Being replaced under warranty (yay!) Battery is good. Alternator good. Wonder if there is something slowly draining battery while it's off?

2016 Yukon - AC Issue
Wife (no pics) drives a 2016 Yukon - Roughly 60k miles. 5.3L two wheel drive tried to save money (read: use E85 gas) about 1.5 months ago - didn't go well. Colder temperatures meant lots of cranking before it would start. Shortly thereafter, battery sounded weak. Most of her driving is back and forth to school with kids (.2 of a mile) and to the grocery (1.5 miles). I put a charger on the battery and it was working fine. Last week when it warmed up, she calls to tell me the AC is not blowing cold. busy with work, I ignore it. Went to start the vehicle on Saturday to move it from the garage for some home projects and it barely started - battery. Charged it again. Back to normal. When running, the battery gauge is sitting dead in the middle. It idles fine. Runs fine. No check engine lights. If the battery is bad, why does it accept a charge from a stand alone charger? If alternator is working, why is battery gauge seemingly "normal"? Why would any of this affect the AC? is it possible I have something else going on that could affect all of this at one time? Modern engines with the electronic shit confuses me. I generally understand concepts based on long forgotten knowledge of regular motors. Wife is convinced it is all related to the E85 fuel. I disagree.

If you have nothing to hide, you have no reason to be afraid of a search
I have never thought about the perversity of the state having preemptory strikes. reading your post really struck a chord and nerve. that would certainly change the dynamic of the criminal trial. I pick juries for a living - civil side. I have been in a panel on the criminal side as was part of the 5%. It was more like 2% in that case (drug possession). I expressed my concerns and swayed a substantial portion of the other potential jurors. 1) cops aren't inherently trustworthy 2) three strikes and your out for personal use quantities is stupid when the costs are calculated The theories resonated so well that the we were all excused for the day.

Advice on a credit report dispute
most hospitals (if large enough) don't really sell their bills to collections companies. they have their own in house collection agencies with names that don't sound like the hospital, rather like a collection agency. If this is one of those situations, you will likely have better than average luck working through the issue with the hospital.

Hillbilly fix for bowing hard ass hardwoods? will this work?
I don't recall the exact size, but it was barely big enough to accommodate a syringe looking tip like that hornforlife's post above. I did it in the darker places on the floor (light grey) and most were near joints. Several were in the middle of a plank when that is where it sounded the most hollow. after time, the holes seemed to blend some.

Hillbilly fix for bowing hard ass hardwoods? will this work?
i've drilled holes and injected glue to further secure wood to the concrete subfloor. it worked. I had an installer I ran into tell me that this is what he would try as a first resort. He's the only reason I tried it. Again, it worked.

Internet service provider shenanigans (CenturyLink)
i've experienced something similar, but with a different provider. I called and spoke with a rep and told them that I was not advised of a service charge and that it was needed for me to receive services I paid for and necessary due to their equipment failing. They hemmed and hawed....we tell everyone about the service fee.......... I then asked for a recording of that call. They said they would have a supervisor listen and call me back. Two days later I got a call to say the fee was being removed from my bill.
