You think sitting a little kid incapable of steering or touching the pedals in the operator's chair for ninety seconds during the drifting part of tour is equal to teenagers piloting a jet? I'll take that as you're a fucking idiot.- Duck boat sinks in Branson, at least 13 dead
Yes, I do. At what altitude do you think these WWII amphibious vehicles fly?- Duck boat sinks in Branson, at least 13 dead
They didn't find the guy who fell overboard yesterday. https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180722/chicago-sailor-who-fell-overboard-during-race-to-mackinac-remains-missing- Duck boat sinks in Branson, at least 13 dead
Good for you. A small child cannot reach the pedals. A small child cannot turn the wheel. No power steering. The DUKW is drifting. After the joke about not knowing where we're going the operator scoots him or her down from the driver's seat, the kid gets a round of applause and the narrator launches into his spiel about the natural history of the area. Then the engine comes to full power and we're off to the river to make a landing. You are more likely to be injured if the DUKW really connects with a tree in the forest. Some trees along the DUKW path don't have a lot of bark. I've been on tours when the child driver part is omitted because there aren't any little ones and the kids aboard might be able to turn the wheel. Not that it would make that much of a difference. DUKWs are slow to respond and clumsy. From the Wisconsin Dells Army Ducks (there are two DUKW tour companies a couple of blocks from each other) website: The canopies are more for shade from the sun when on the open water. And as I mentioned on Friday, are supposed to be easily removable per USCG. In Alaska, the modern ducks had a roof because coastal Alaska is a rainforest.- Malapropisms, Bad English and shit

Court date set for August 17 at 9:00AM. Could be looking at 2 — 10. The impeding breath modifier bumps it up to a Felony 3. Without any priors and a good attorney, she has a shot at probation.- Bad songs by good artists
Negative. The Stones were in the studio before the Beatles. Work was constantly interrupted by Mick and Keith's drug bust and subsequent court appearances, Mick and Keith and Brian bringing friends to the studio and the usual Stones disorganization. Sgt Peppers was released earlier than Satanic Majesties so Satanic is perceived as a response. And then some countries wouldn't allow imports because of the "satanic". Original artwork was to have been Jagger crucified. This seems to be the only part of the album where someone (record executives) exercised better judgment to avoid all the excesses. Another thing that people forget: these guys went to the same parties. Lennon and McCartney sang back up on We Love You. To the public, the Beatles were squeaky clean while the Stones worked "the piss and grease side of the street". Marketing image. I don't remember where I read this, but the version I recall is Mick and McCartney were chatting at a party and Mick described the Stones' Satanic project. A lightbulb went off over McCartney's head. Evidently that is the same way Bowie learned of Guy Peellaert, the artist who did the cover art for Diamond Dogs and It's Only Rock 'N' Roll. Another thing about Mick is his sense of humor. Remember when Bill Wyman announced his retirement? "Well, it's gonna be tough to replace such a good dancer." Or dismissing early Lennon and McCartney songwriting (through his "interview" segment in The Rutles "documentary"): To me, Dirty Work is a lesser album.- Mockumentaries and parodies.

Start squinting and complain you're having problems seeing.- Jonathan Gold, first food critic to win Pulitzer, dies
Not familiar with Jonathan Gold. Did find a nice write-up in The New Yorker and a review of City Of Gold documentary in The Atlantic. And a hot dog article. The Fluky's which Gold refers to is the dog joint credited with inventing the Chi dog. Nowadays it is just a shadow of its former self. They do not even make an authentic Chi dog nowadays. Not worth seeking out. For someone who was so influenced by his father's love of hot dogs, I'm surprised I'm not finding a Gold column on Japadog. I thought I was an adventurous eater but there is no way I could keep pace with him. Seems like a nice guy.- Lame joke thread
I've never talked about this before, but I really need the board's advice on what could be a crucial decision. I've suspected for some time now that my girlfriend has been cheating on me. The usual signs… Phone rings but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My girlfriend has been going out with the girls a lot recently although when I ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't know them." I always stay awake to look out for her taxi coming home, but she always walks down the drive. Although I can hear a car driving off, it's as if she got out of the car round the corner. Why? Maybe she wasn't in a taxi? I once picked up her mobile phone just to see what time it was and she went berserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her. Anyway, I have never approached the subject with her I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to check on her. I decided I was going to park my motorcycle next to the garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the whole street when she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my bike, that I noticed that the valve covers on my engine seemed to be leaking a little oil. Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it back to the dealer?- Shit I have seen in the subway
Why? He's not in the women only car.- Duck boat sinks in Branson, at least 13 dead
Didn't know Seattle has ducks. Surplus WWII DUKWs. “She’s not very fast, but she’s better in water than any truck and she’ll beat any boat on a highway!” – Roderic Stephens, Jr., naval architect.- Duck boat sinks in Branson, at least 13 dead
Are these WWII ducks or repros? The USCG recommended original DUKWs be fitted with air-tight compartments or have the hull filled with foam. Also easily removable canopies to prevent people from becoming trapped. Repro ducks should have been built to those standards. Were the people instructed to put on lifejackets at the first hint of a storm? Riding duck boats is a lot of fun. But the emphasis is on the scenery, the novelty of amphibious vehicle and jokey narration. On a perfectly calm lake the WWII ducks are not responsive and clumsy. At one point the boat operator had a little boy steer the duck. while commenting, "You don't even know where we're going," to laughter. One tour takes the passengers through a DUKW graveyard. The tour company is constantly on the lookout for vintage DUKWs to scavenge parts to keep their fleet intact. A modern duck in Alaska was a big improvement. I do not recall ever having a lifejacket demonstration.- 2018 APD Booking Photo Thread
