Card will start the first 2 games. In the early 3rd Qtr against Bama, when they have a very comfortable lead and are playing their backups' backups, QE will come in the game and will remain the starter for the rest of the season. We win 6 or 7 regular season games and win a garbage bowl game.
McMichael was as badass as they come. If we had a couple of clones of him now we would wreck s**t. I hope he rests easy and in comfort. The man led an interesting life. I wish that for all of us.
These are the salad days. The Louisiana-Monroe postgame thread will likely involve multiple proclamations of suicide & arson, at least 2 threats on my life and some donkey-punching.
There was an article from, I think, ProFootballFocus that graded out 422 college LBs from last season. If I remember correctly, Brockermeyer was next to last and Overshown was in the 380s. Odds are, we could grab a player from almost any school and it would be an upgrade.
I don't think the portal shits out quality starters and future NFL 1st round draft picks. I'm not even saying that these guys are average college football players. They could be terrible and still be an upgrade for us until the talented freshmen are ready.
These coaches all turned things around quickly at Baylor. Think about all of the scandals and madness that have happened in Waco. All of it deserved. Still, Baylor has won the Big 12 3 times since our last conference title in football.
Look, Sark is a millionaire and I'm just another keyboard warrior. Perhaps he is right, and rolling out basically the same o-line and LBs this year that were atrocious last year will work out for us. I guess people like me should shut up and stop complaining about it. It seems to be happening no matter what.
Multiple times, I've seen people here post things like, "With our incredible skill position talent, if our o-line could just be functional, if it could just be average, we could win 9 or 10 games." I agree with that sentiment. We don't need all-american or all-conference o-line play from potential transfer portal additions. Baylor didn't need it from their transfer portal linemen when they won the conference. I don't have unrealistic expectations that we will find future NFL 1st round picks in the portal. I just want functional o-linemen who can make our o-line average. If we roll out roughly the same o-line as last year (less our best o-linemen from last year who is now gone) we won't be close to an average college football offensive line.
Kelvin would be at least a 3-year starter at any school in the country...including Bama & UGA. He will get NIL money anywhere. I think he wants to win and a 6-7 win Texas season would likely compel him to leave.
I would like to believe they know talent too. As for playing it out and seeing what happens.....we did that last year and it was a disaster. Now, we will likely start pretty much the same crew with the best of the bunch no longer here.
You said maybe no one hit the portal. They did last offseason......Baylor took multiple linemen from the portal and went from 2 wins to conference champs. If you don't find that point to be compelling, and a serious black mark on the talent assessment capabilities of Sark, then I don't know what else to say.
...and, if Sark wanted a kid and couldn't convince him to choose us over Baylor, he is definitely the wrong man for this job.
