  1. I think it's more than just access to firepower. Other countries have access to the same firepower, yet we have far more things like this happening. I hate to say it, but we are just broken and I don't know that there's a way to fix it. There are people in our society that have no regard for human life. It's sad, it sucks, and I do hope that there is something that can be done. I don't want the solution to be more security in our schools, having more people armed, or any other ideas like that. I'm a supporter of the 2nd amendment, but there has got to be something better than more people armed. I have weapons, but they do not leave my house except to shoot at a range. My weapons are for peace of mind within my home. If someone were on my property and stealing something outside, they can have it. I'm not going to kill another human being over a "thing". Maybe I'm in the minority of other gun owners, but for anyone to be on the wrong side of my weapon, they will need to be in my house and a threat to my family. When I was a kid, my dad taught me how to shoot when I was around 11 or 12 years old. The very first thing that he told me was to never point a gun at any other person or animal unless I intended to kill. He taught me that every gun was loaded, whether you think it is or not. My dad and I both served in the Marine Corps, so we had a bit more training than the normal person on the street. I guess the bottom line is that in my mind, we're simply screwed up as a society.
  2. Apparently it's what military spouses do when their significant other is deployed. Long over that part of my life.
  3. ` Well, if you spent any time in the greater Jacksonville area in 1994, you probably fucked my ex-wife. My condolences.
  4. Hmmm... I got stationed there in 1993 or so. There was a restaurant there and I can't remember the name, but they had an all you can eat beef rib night.
  5. HUGE roller derby fan here. This will be really confusing for me. Just like back when the NFL Cardinals were in STL people would preface their sports team talk with "Football" or "Baseball" Cardinals. This will be no different. How am I supposed to know which Guardians team people are referring to? This is an outrage.
  6. This definitely fishy. 1. You are absolutely right. The email client doesn't automatically compress files. You can get prompted if you want the compress it, particularly when sending from your phone. It will not, even if you do elect to compress the size of the file, rename it. Prosecutor definitely came across as dishonest at best. 2. Why the fuck is the prosecutor sending evidence via his personal fucking gmail account? That's just stupid. 3. Isn't it the prosecutor's responsibility to ensure that the defense gets the evidence? Then to sit there and say that they had every opportunity to object to it is flat wrong. How can they possibly object to it when the file that they were given was not the file that was entered into evidence? "Oh, they could have had an expert look at it and see that it had been compressed." None of them know anything about this stuff and it's aggravating.
  7. There was also a really weird part of Binger's (may have been the other prosecutor during rebuttal, I can't recall) closing arguments: 1. He said that if you bring a gun, you lose the right to self-defense. 2. He then said that the people attacking KR had the same right to self-defense as he did. That was just really odd and all over the place. I wonder if anyone in the jury heard it the same way that I did, which is basically that KR did in fact have a right to self-defense.
  8. Same guy, right? He was armed and unarmed at the same time.
  9. If I was the defense I'd be accidentally dropping Twinkies on the ground every time that big boy was talking.
  10. So the original image was altered. Does that about sum it up?
  11. Yeah, I guess they had different standards in combat. We always called them Army gloves. My sister sent me that picture this morning and it's the first time that I have ever seen it. After seeing his face and recovering from the dust in the room, I thought "Look at the old man wearing his Army gloves!"
  12. PM sent. I thought of another way to get service records.
  13. I posted this picture in the USMC Birthday thread, but it's also very appropriate here. A picture of my old man (far right) in Korea circa 1950. Marine Corps Sergeant, mortarman, and the reason for my joining the Corps. Good man with faults, and a great father. He passed way about 8 years ago and I miss him every day.
  14. It depends on the branch of service and the years. Your best bet is to probably start by getting the DD214. This page has some good links: https://nvf.org/how-to-get-a-copy-of-dd214/ Be warned that some records were lost in a flood or fire or something like that. I think it was St. Louis, but I really can't recall. I ended up having to go to Headquarters Marine Corps for my DD214 because of it.
  15. My dad (far right) in Korea, probably 1950. Sergeant in the Marine Corps, he was a mortarman and the reason that I joined the Corps. He died about 8 years ago. He was a man with his faults, but a fantastic father that made sure to spend time with me. He taught me more than I can possibly express here. Edited to add that we talked every Marine Corps Birthday after I got out of boot camp.
  16. But according to pinchy-zoomy, he fell down simply because he was light headed. I have no idea what the purpose was of the DA making that point.
  17. wow, he got hit in the head with a skateboard and became lightheaded. Holy shit.
  18. He does, however, know a shit ton about being a smug son of a bitch.
  19. It's weird, but I don't feel a day over 100.
  20. Been the bench coach for a few seasons. I think he was the 1st base coach at one point too. Been in the organization for a while. He only played minor league ball for a few seasons before they told him "you know, you'd probably be a better coach than a player". Here we are.
  21. Except for the fact that he's going to live with this the rest of his life. I can't imagine how I would handle that.
