  1. Just a little background on me: I'm an old (50) and think that we, collectively as a society, have become soft. I spent 11 years in the Marine Corps. That doesn't mean that I'm a badass or anything like that. It just means that I'm a bit different and have a view of our society that quite a few on here would probably think is archaic. I keep my political opinions to myself unless I am in my own home. That being said, there is no justification for punching a kid. Whether the kid has mental issues or not, there is no justification for a grown man to punch a kid in the face the way he did. That kid was handcuffed with his hands behind his back. Okay, so the kid spit blood at deputy badass. Punching the kid in the face is not going to alter what happened. It's not going to stop the kid from doing it again. It's not going to make the kid better. Now, what may have prevented it in the first place, is if the grown men in the situation had any compassion for a human being that is obviously in a bad place. Our society really sucks.
  2. I live just off 44 about 60 miles outside of STL. You'll see the signs, but you probably should stop at the Uranus Fudge Factory just because and your kids will think it's funny. While in STL, you need to go to the Hill to get some good Italian food. I recommend Favazza's. https://favazzas.com/ STL style pizza sucks. It's thin and crispy with fucking provel cheese. Shit is gross. It forms a film in your mouth. I honestly can't think of place I'd recommend to eat STL style pizza because it all sucks. Depending on the time that you have on the drive, there is a pretty cool place just outside of Springfield called Wilson's Creek. I think it's the location for the first Civil War battle west of the Mississippi or something like that. Your kids are going to love City Museum. There is also the National Museum of Transportation, which is really cool. You could also check out Purina Farms (in the Grey Summit area) and Grant's Farm. The zoo is always cool, but it's an entire day. It is free, so there's that. Oh, there's also the World Bird Sanctuary and Lone Elk Park. As far as the stuff I listed above, I'd prioritize them this way: 1. City Museum (because that's on your own list) 2. The zoo 3. National Museum of Transportation 4. Purina Farms 5. Grant's Farm 6. Both parks Hope you all have a great time!
  3. Whatever it is, Dirtbike needs to be involved. Build a storage facility, hire him to run it, and have security cameras recording his every word. I also have heard of an idea that is something of a condom, but for the tops of Solo cups.
  4. We have districts this weekend. Senior (285) ran into a rough patch and lost 4 in a row a couple of weeks ago. He has wrestled some very tough competition, but seems to be back on track. We'll see how this weekend goes, though. In his district is a kid that's ranked in the top 5 or so in the nation at 285. If my boy gets to the semis on the right side, he'll wrestle that kid. My sophomore has wrestled a lot. he's had 44 matches this year. He consistently finishes tops among the underclassmen, so he's improving quite a bit. He's at 152, which is a gauntlet. He's had some nice tournaments this year. Districts is going to be tough though. In his bracket this weekend there are 5 state qualifiers from last year. I did get him signed up for a really good camp this summer. Ever heard of Purler?
  5. As kingkoopa mentioned in post 32. He was a Marine. Semper Fi
  6. The pups are doing great. 3 of the 4 are well over 5 pounds now. The "runt" is about 4, but not hurting for food at all. Mom (Ladybird) has an infection in one her boobs. Damn thing is the size of a grapefruit. She's on antibiotics now. We're taking the pups out of the whelping box and letting them waddle around on a large comforter for a bit every night. The first night we did it they played for about 20 minutes and then they all just crashed. They are going to be such good dogs for the families that adopt them.
  7. I'm guessing that NowThis has heard this sentence a time or two.
  8. The top section (2000-2009) are Leach at Tech. The bottom section is Leach at WSU.
  9. Just shut up, you middle-of-the-road-can't-make-up-your-mind so and so.
  10. I have a high school senior that recently played his last game of football. He was a varsity starter on OL for 3 years. Big kid, moves pretty well. He was being pursued by smaller schools (FCS and D3), so it's not like there would have been a lot financial help through athletic scholarships. Anyway, he signed his enlistment papers for the Navy last summer and completely stopped talking with the college recruiters. We just need to get through a few more weeks of wrestling and I'll be happy. I have a sophomore that also is playing football and wrestles. This one is smaller and plays DB. There is no way that this boy is going to get any colleges of any size interested in him for football. Kid plays football like he thinks he's the biggest kid on the field. I have secretly wished that he would just quit football and focus on wrestling. I know that there are risks in wrestling, but the violence of the hits that he is involved in with football just seem bigger. I have held my breath several times over the years with both of these boys on the football field. A few weeks ago the sophomore told me that he may just quit football all together and focus on wrestling. Inside I was relieved.
  11. Here the puppies are at 2 weeks. They are growing so fast. Their eyes are open, noses are changing color and they are starting to get up on all fours. They are also liking to be pet. This is going to be hard to let them go.
  12. Scene: Mid 1980s, at a party at some girl's house. We were at the dining room table playing quarters, I believe. I was at one end of the table and proceeded to projectile vomit the entire length of the table. My friends and I were encouraged to leave pretty quickly. No stones cast from me toward this guy, but I do laugh while at the same time empathizing.
  13. I never played a minute of organized basketball, but even I can see how fucking stupid his offense is.
  14. I'm not seeing those last 2 pictures.
  15. I'm having a hard time seeing good things from our front office.
  16. I want to believe that they adjust their cooking depending on the local palates.
  17. I think Carpenter would probably do well in Colorado with his swing. Unfortunately, he swings and misses far too often. I think I did read somewhere (or heard on the radio) that he wants to get back to line drives and hitting to all fields. Hell, maybe that's just me projecting my wishes and I never heard it. Maybe Arenado feeling 'disrespected' will help in getting something done. I'd love to seem as a Cardinal this year. Ozuna, Arenado, Goldschmidt would be one hell of a middle of the lineup.
  18. Our local middle school girls basketball coach is pretty good. Would be a huge step up.
  19. I live in a 'neighborhood' with an HOA, but the only thing that our dues are for are road maintenance (plowing in the winter). Other than that, they don't give a shit what we do.
  20. Yeah, I think he's going to have to take 1 year deal regardless of whether he's back with the Cards or any other team. He doesn't appear to be a clubhouse problem. He has been inconsistent with the Cardinals, but the homerun threat was a nice thing to have. I really want to see what Carlson has, but I'd hate to go into the season relying on a rookie. This team just has too much dead weight with Carpenter, Cecil and Fowler. They have been the poster children for giving bad contracts to mediocre players for the last few years.
  21. It's been a while since I've lived in a neighborhood with a real HOA. Are playscapes typically against HOA restrictions? That seems kind of stupid.
  22. Yeah. The rescue that we have worked with got 3 out of a total of 30+ pyrs at that farm. The story is that they started with one boy and one girl and they just kept on having litters. Never got them fixed. All they did was feed them. The three that our rescue took included the mom of most of them on the farm. Poor thing is likely never to be adopted. She just doesn't trust people at all. We met her when they first got her and were going to adopt her. The guy from the rescue actually advised against it and wanted us to meet Ladybird. The mom of all those puppies just kept having litter after litter with no recovery time. Her nipples are black and hanging about 5" below her belly. I'm fairly certain that she will be a permanent resident of the rescue.
  23. Yesterday morning our youngest boy had one of the puppies in his lap. The pup started to whine a bit and Ladybird came over and was trying to get it from him. She couldn't get her head into the right position though, so my wife just took the pup back to the whelping box. It's really fascinating to see the instincts take over during this whole process. Ladybird is eating so much now. You can see her belly and how skinny she is after the birth. When we first met her she was skinny, but now even more so. She gets some fresh eggs every morning and is really eating a lot of her dog food. She was rescued from a farm on the Iowa/Missouri border a little over a month ago. I'm amazed at how trusting she is of people. She did not have any interaction with people until the rescue got her. I think having Sadie here helped to get her acclimated to living with our family.
