We got back from Steamboat late last night after getting 3 days on the mountain. The 12" of snow that fell before we got there was a life saver and the snow was actually pretty good as long as you stayed up top. We took the gondola up every morning and didn't come down below Thunderhead until we were done for the day. The warm temps at the base made for some serious mashed potato conditions on that last run of the day. We spent the majority of our time making laps at the Sunshine Lift. The lift line would get pretty backed up mid morning, but I don't think we waited any longer than ~15 minutes the whole time and most of the time it was <10 mins. I was really on the fence about going this year but I'm so glad that we did! I met up with @gyroprotagonist for a beer one day as well, good to meet you in person bud.
We had a swim meet on Saturday and I couldn't help but shoulder surf the guy in front of me using ChatGPT to write a 2 sentence long note of congratulations to his child who was competing in the meet. I assume he was going to post it on FB, but dude was thrashing around on the ChatGPT app for a good 10 minutes before I saw something shiny and quit paying attention. We are so cooked.
I'm in a Strava group with a few buddies and we all have a goal to do 500 miles of running or walking for the year. I only got 32 miles in for January due to the weather and some work travel, so I've got to pick up the pace in February. I got 4.6 in this morning and plan on another walk tomorrow and a run on Saturday to get back on track. I tweaked my hamstring in December doing strides at the end of a run and that fucker kept nagging me for almost a month. I tried to stick to slower paced runs and make sure I was really warming up and stretching good before pushing it at all again. One thing I've noticed is I have a bright line between a comfortable pace/heart rate and getting gassed quickly. It seems like I can hold a 9 minute pace pretty easily, but as soon as I get up to 8:45 or so my HR redlines and I really have to fight to maintain it. I'm going to do more threshold runs at shorter distances to get used to holding a quicker pace.
I took the plunge on President's day weekend at Steamboat today. Here's to hoping the stormier pattern materializes before then... Mega oof. I'd be real curious to see the contract between Conoco and Doyon. The Operator is responsible for the rig during mobilization/de-mob in a typical IADC contract, but I bet on a rig that expensive they use their own form. Either way, someone's insurers are eating a massive shit sandwich this week. The dayrate on that rig has to be in the ballpark of a deepwater rig since they can only drill up there during the winter.
Thank goodness this was not what we ended up with at our place. We were just a few miles south of the freeze line on Saturday when all of the rain was coming down. We ended up with a couple inches of precip and I still can't get up my driveway this morning, but we never lost power. I lost an elm tree that was on death's door already; it just snapped off at the ground, but that was about it. I'm waiting for it to warm up a few more degrees so the ice melts off the tree before going to work on that mfer with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch. If it would have been <32 during the day on Saturday it would look like a hellscape around here with pine trees and power poles snapped in half errrrywhere.
I had a business trip to Denver last week and tacked on an extra day so I could ski Loveland. They only had 28 of 94 runs open, but a Wednesday lift ticket was $78 and I didn't wait in a single line all day. The snow on the runs that were open wasn't bad at all and I skied as many laps as I could until my legs turned to jelly. There's nothing quite like solo bombing groomers with no lift lines. 10/10, would recommend.
I dumped all of my IBRX shares in March at a big loss, but I bought back in with even more shares in June at $2.69.... This never happens to me. My stonk account snapshot looks like a slaughterhouse, with one green candle in the middle now. If the WSB degens are piling in now this thing could get really spicy. I think I'm going to set some limit orders today so I don't get too greedy and get fuckin rekt - again.
Damn it. I don’t I’ve ever felt this way with the passing of a musician. Thanks for the soundtrack to so many of my best days and good memories. I’m going to hole up and listen to some music at a high volume tonight.
I'm still waiting to see how much this next storm brings before booking Steamboat for President's day. This forecast says there is the potential for 19" over the next 5 days, but I don't know how realistic that is. OpenSnowTwo storms this week | Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast | Op...Monday will bring a warmer storm, and Thursday/Friday will deliver a colder storm. Hopefully, snow totals from both systems...
Timely bump. I started poking around for places to do another quick run with my sons on President's Day and the snow situation is looking pretty grim at Steamboat. It's hard to throw down the cash on a hope and a prayer that it starts dumping.
