The New Car Fanatic Thread
Just picked up a '25 Hyundai Ioniq5 for my oldest. Colorado has insanely cheap leases for these vehicles right now. Sticker price of almost $50k and I paid just over $200/mo with only first payment down on a 24 month lease. My first EV, but I'm impressed with how it drives. It was an easy choice with how fucked the used car market is. I'm not paying $15k for a 10 year old Outback or Rav4 with 100k miles.

Surly kids who can't get into UT
Trinity has always put a priority on early decision. I did not apply that way, but my wife did. She also did the Trinity Summer (don't know if they still do that), which also helps. They will offer your kid a fuckton of financial aid, though. That's what the huge endowment is for.

I'm a big fan of 1924. Have almost killed my second bottle. OF just hits my tastebuds the right way.

Southwest or every other airline in the history of the world?
Would be hilarious if they still end up checking the same number of bags that they used to, but the majority are done for free at the gate, eliminating the revenues after they've already alienated their best customers.

When you ask one of these idiots to explain how things were worse under Democrats, you can see smoke come out of their ears. Everything has to be the Dems fault because otherwise they voted for the wrong guy.

Surly kids who can't get into UT
Trinity has a huge endowment and used to provide a lot of scholarships and other aid packages other than loans to keep costs affordable. I assume they still do, but I'm not 100%.

Surly kids who can't get into UT
CU and CSU went through that probably 15-20 years ago and there was a huge outcry when one year's freshman class at CU had more out of state than in state kids in it. I think they are required to have more in state kids in every class now. But they do love the OOS tuition.

Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
That's my whole point. Even if UT had joined the PAC, they still would have left for the SEC $$. CFB is now just like MLB. There are a handful of haves and a bunch of have nots.

Yeah, at the end of the day, major consolidation is coming and even current members of the B1G and SEC will be left out. The fact is that once schools and boosters were allowed to pay players directly, this was always going to be the end result. Too bad for you guys T Boone kicked it already or you could be competitive. Oregon will get left at the roadside as soon as Uncle Phil dies.

Media deal would have still expired when it did and Texas would have still left for the SEC, IMO.
-
Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
We're all going to be left behind eventually, except for the top 20 or so teams, IMO.

Texas wanted preferential treatment and the conference said no. Larry Scott was an idiot but not about that. Oh, no! I'm a pussy? How will I recover from an insult like that?

Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
Texas to the PAC was never going to happen because they wouldn't let go of LHN and they would not agree to equal revenue sharing. Both were deal killers.

My dad mentioned the same 'trade imbalance' bullshit when I called him out on the tariffs. That must be the Fox talking point on the issue. These people are lost forever (at least my dad is).

Every conference Texas has been in since forever has broken up. I'm sure that's completely coincidental and has nothing to do with Texas.

So I should invest a bunch of time and money to hope my team can be a spoiler? That's not gonna happen. BTW, I'm a CU fan. My team has the same number of NCs in my lifetime (50 years) as Texas does. But their trajectories are going to be very different going forward.

Between NIL, the portal and the way all the money and power in CFB has been amassed by the B1G and SEC, I'm just not as interested in CFB as I used to be. Only a select few teams can afford the top players and you never know who will even be on the team from year to year. Lower tier teams are now being used as farm teams for the top teams because players can leave at any time. The ironic thing is I don't have a problem with NIL. The players deserve a cut of all the money they make the schools. But when combined with the portal, it has guaranteed that only maybe 10 teams ever have a real shot at winning it all. If your team is one of them (and UT is), I can see how you like it. For the rest of us, it's not good. And as our interest wanes, so will profits and payouts to all teams.

Meh. 10 years ago I would have really cared and really wanted CU in the B1G. Don't care anymore. College football is unrecognizable from what it used to be. I'll still watch and I'll still pull for the Buffs, but I hate where CFB is and where it is going.
