  1. Probably goes on the dumb question amnesty thread (and I already fucked up once but people keep asking this around me) but in regards to getting it twice, the doctor on the Saturday conference said no way. but isn’t the common cold a coronavirus and we only know of 7 kinds of coronaviruses? So then how do people keep getting colds throughout the years? If we can’t get covid19 twice, then I’m definitely getting something wrong, but which part? Thanks in advance.
  2. Oh, no Data. Just saying and hoping for the best. edit: just saw the post above mine with data. So here’s to hoping!
  3. For March madness, sure why not? If the case load here mimics the ones in Italy, China, sk then right around tourney time shit will be nuts. Playing the games with no audience is a good compromise. Do more than a nominal amount of people even watch the nhl playoffs if there City team isn’t in it? As for the NBA playoffs, they start in late April? Hopefully we have a good handle on stuff by then, and business can go back to normal. Theaters and restaurants might be fucked for a few weeks though. But if Milan is opening up tourist places again today, maybe we dodged a bullet.
  4. Question about the BNO news map, why don’t they have a little circle in Iceland, Nigeria, ecuador, etc? The gf Is in Quito (6 cases) now due to a relative passing (fuck cancer) and at church they told her the Bishop said no more shaking hands in the “peace be with you” part of service. So it’s spreading there already, people are taking precautions, but no little orange dot from BNO.
  5. Or we just realize our elder parents could be sick and bringing in booger clingers from across the globe won’t help the situation.
  6. That’s just it; my coping strategy Is that all you can do is buy a few more supplies on grocery runs until the possibility of being isolated 2-4 weeks becomes inevitable. Then make a mad dash and bunker down. Water and electricity will not get shut off, you’ll probably get the Wuhan but odds are really really good you won’t die from the virus. my problem is that I’m only focusing on the MTA being shut down and then being forced to stay home. I keep having to remind myself that that’ll be 1-2 weeks but what if I then get sick? I’ll have to add another 2-3 weeks of time off and more supplies needed. Would suck for me but not sure how that type of scenario and it’s impact plays out for the rest country and the economy. Let’s say people get mild symptoms and go to work so they then start another round of sick people in their area. At least the economy won’t suffer that much but then one or two people they know do get really sick? There’s a lot of unknown shit to ponder. edit: for me, that really isn’t shit hitting the fan. It’s not the apocalypse. Shit will suck but it’s seemingly manageable with a little bit of prep work and rationalization.
  7. If we’re unlucky? Looking at the SK timeline, and assuming it’s already here in mostly undetected mild cases but on the other hand we have a much larger country with mass transit limited to a few large cities... 12 days until they get posted more than state tweets but yeah, next week when the first BNO city tweets pop up. But hey, fingers crossed, the longer it takes the better!
  8. Day late but 2/28 is when this thread started mostly only showing BNO tweets for states cases instead of country ones. Buckle up.
  9. was just coming to post. thought the same since I really liked book two but the season gets better. not greatest ever but last couple episodes were pretty ok.
  10. yeah, i was gonna post there ...but don't do that. cracks need hair, trust me. otherwise, get ready for some slip and slide down under.
  11. Same. I have enough whiskey but for the slow burn, gonna go get some beer to last a couple weeks.
  12. my apologies, that was a dumb post, he is uber qualified. So now reports that the japanese woman didn't get it twice are online, didn't know that before the press conference. so we just don't know now? but he unequivocally said you can't. so thats it, final word on it?
  13. just said, that if one person gets it, they won't get it again. wtf? did this guy just lose ALL credibility?!
  14. yeah, this entire press conference is a hedge of "we did great! but its going to get worse but we are fine at this exact moment. but it'll get worse so don't say we didn't warn you!" No CR but sounds like a press conference that any admin would do once they've been briefed that the hit is coming. The risk is low but there will be more cases! Great.
  15. talking about Afghanistan for some reason... 6 minutes in, now starts talking about the virus 22 cases, 1 death overnight, 15 in recovery in USA china numbers down and according to Tim Cook at Apple "they" are at full operation Meeting Monday with big pharma re: vaccine. Task force met for 2.5 hours on 02/29/20 and got recommendations asks for people to not panic Pence to talk about travel restrictions to include other/more? countries; including now any foreign national who has been to Iran in 14 days. Going to lvl 4 advisory for specific regions in Italy and SK, urging americans to not travel to the areas most affected there by the virus
  16. i don't have cable but 1min until the press conference on the fox news website. edit: starting.
  17. ...and that would destroy the economy. not sure how to balance the two issues.
  18. lulz. too somnio. I'm not able to work from home, and if nyc hits italy levels of cases then yeah, thats gonna leave a mark for me. as for the economy, do they keep the indexes open and the rest of the city shuts down? do they close the mta? I realize that is a "big if" regarding the number of cases but who knows what'll happen. A "closed" nyc not only affects me personally but everyone else on this board will feel it in the economy.
  19. I do hope it turns into a cat1/trop storm and we dodge a bullet. and correct, we won't go into the dark ages no matter what happens. but from the article below: this part: "This has been much easier: no chills, no body aches. I breathe easily, and I don't have a stuffy nose. My chest feels tight, and I have coughing spells. If I were at home with similar symptoms, I probably would have gone to work as usual " means he would be infecting the shit out of a lot of people with something that feels like an average cold. But if the 10-20% hospitalization figure is anywhere true, then somnio level numbers come into play b/c then everyone is getting it and hospitals can't handle that 10-20%. So an overrun healthcare system will change "life as we know it for the foreseeable future". or if you consider this part in light of the Oregon school news: "I left home in January that I wouldn't be back until March - that, instead, I would be confined for more than 24 days" then people throughout the economy missing work for 24 days or people missing 5 then thinking "fuck it, i need money i'm going to work fuck everyone else's health" will affect "life as we know it for the foreseeable future". again, hopefully we dodge a bullet but i'd lay a Trading Places gentleman's bet on the foreseeable future being different.
  20. it won't end civilization. But in regards to your statement, way back on page 59 i was wondering if this would fundamentally change american societal interactions. Until we get a vaccine, I think it will but I hope thats where the effect ends. And more importantly, regardless of which party is in the whitehouse, I hope the CDC does its damn job and learns from this outbreak's fuckups.
  21. never had 1920 so can't judge ...yet. might as well get some this wknd, f it, if i'm stuck at home i'm gonna be drunk.
