Perfectly fine for pre-teen. No blood, very cartoon-like. Creative mode where you build your own world, is fun. My 12yo has been playing since he was ~10.

A cloth. To clean. Between people sharing a highly communicable disease. That's some real turn-of-the-century logic here. Bet you didn't pull the paper. I did. Interesting first that simply putting this text in google pulls up mentions on dozens of Christian websites, so this clearly this argument makes the rounds in the religious circles. And I quote : link In 1988 - which is why they were looking at HIV transmission. Do you know how different COVID-19 is from HIV and hepatitis B? Just curious.

As discussed a few days ago, so few mid to large pharma are still in the infectious disease business anymore. I do wonder what he was hoping the private sector would do here.

I’m looking forward to the eventual epidemiology reports on this - fascinating to me that the first site of outbreak were not around major travel hubs (Atlanta, Chicago, NY, Houston). We first saw it in Vacaville, Kirkland, Rhode Island, Tennessee. Clearly a lot we don’t understand yet.

I remember lining up in the gym for the vaccination for that (using the machine gun thing in this linked article). interesting that in many ways the failed public policy around the vaccinations for swine flu probably still linger today. And I do know one person who likely developed Guillan-Barre from the vaccine. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/long-shadow-1976-swine-flu-vaccine-fiasco-180961994/

...which is why I think it’s interesting where we’ve seen the first cases. Not what I would have expected but it may have to do with testing and that it hit a nursing home in Washington early.

Yes - it's different than flu, which outside of a droplet doesn't last long. The report that said it lasts >5d on surfaces was discussed a few pages ago and it's not really correct. While it's likely that surfaces can harbor some infectious material for a day or more, the virulence drops logarithmically by day. You're far, far more likely to get it by being in close contact with someone infected. Still, wash your hands.

As does Regeneron and many others. Still have to pick neutralizing antibodies. Still might want to affinity mature them. Even with high-throughput screens, this takes time before you have your thing. But there are so few antibody therapeutics for infectious diseases (anthrax is the one that comes to mind). Most vaccines are not antibodies, but preparations of inactivated virus. The kicker is, how many large pharmas even have infectious disease groups anymore? Wasn't sure Amgen did, and Novartis culled most of their work last year. It's going to come from someone smaller (or the CDC, who did the H1N1 vaccine in about 8 months). There'll certainly also be a few trials like this one which test existing antivirals drugs to treat infections.

That literally the conclusion from the Trevor Bedford Twitter feed linked above, looking at the lineage of cases reported in Washington. The most recent one is the same lineage as one tested in January 19th, meaning there's been 'cryptic transmission' (great band name, too) for 6 weeks. And these are the cases we know about.

I think the cruise ships offer a good study in this - there were certainly people with symptoms or without, carrying the disease. Reports are that the 'quarantine' was far from optimal - people not taking it seriously, eating together, etc. And still the overall infection rate was only a portion. Basically, I'd be more worried about the breakfast buffet than the HVAC. This isn't Legionnaire's Disease, caused by a bacterium with a waxy coating that allows it to thrive in those environments.- Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away
