Formula 1 2025
Give 'em whatever tire they want, but only allow each car to hold 12 gallons of fuel. Plenty of pitstops then. But really, I don't know if forcing more pitstops (though intentionally-shitty tires or limiting fuel) is a good way to increase engagement. It just introduces more randomness. I mean, we could just roll a D6 after each qualifying session and if a 6 hits, we invert the starting order--chaos race! Or we could have sprinkler or soaker systems set up to make sure we get the equivalent of at least 5 rain laps every race. Or give each driver some kind of light gun that he could aim at any car within 50 meters and zap it, giving the target car a power drain for like 5 seconds.

Houston Texans 2025 Season Thread
I'm just echoing what everyone else has said but that offensive performance was...offensive. Putrid. Terrible OL play, moronic penalties, and "the fuck was that?"-level play calling and game management. I feel bad for the Texans defense, who gave the offense multiple chances to get back into the game. It was not unlike watching the UT offense fumblefuck around, except that the Texans are a fucking professional NFL team and have even less excuse to put this product on the field.

Who's been covid vaxxed? Stand up and be counted.
Is it true that Costco vaccines come with a free extended warranty, like TVs?

Dallas Cowboys 2025 season thread: 8-9 and divine. The world according to Jerry
Just after the game last night an acquaintance called me to complain about Dak's play. He also said he was "impressed" by "how well" the Cowboys defense played to "keep them in the game." There are some fans that will blame Dak for everything.

The Cowboys have no defense and the Texans have no offense. If the two teams played, who would win?

Blastfurnace 2025
It's only an "indoor day" for highs under 20 F? And 95 F can be OK, depending on humidity. Map is biased against Southern states. Like to see a version where highs under, say, 32 F are indoor days, which is a more realistic threshold IMHO. An "average" and correct-thinking person would consider 20 F considerably more unpleasant and extreme than 95 F.

Every time I try to get into the Texans (as a backup to the Cowboys) they shit the bed so hard. Time to change the mattress again.

2025 Game Week 4: Sam Houston @ Texas
This is kind of irrelevant now because I found a stream--but I just want a sanity check. Yesterday I checked listings on Youtube TV, and I swear it showed the Texas game on either ESPN regular, or on SEC Network (regular, no "plus," no bullshit, etc.) I selected the game to be recorded. I even checked my scheduled recordings and it showed up as a future event to be recorded. But tonight, I tune in to Youtube TV and it didn't record, and it wasn't running on ESPN or SEC Network. It turns out it wasn't carried on Youtube TV at all. Did the game get moved off the scheduled channel to ESPN+/SEC+ at the last minute? Does anyone know why? If it was always going to be this way, why did Youtube TV let me set up a recording for it yesterday?

Trump’s America
Laying the groundwork for overturning or nullifying the results of an election that doesn't go MAGA's way. #1 Enact rules to make it harder for voters who are not MAGA to register or vote. (Restrictive voter ID measures, selectively control polling locations, eliminate early voting, mail voting, etc.). #2 Make rules that dilute the influence of those voters, if they still manage to vote. (Gerrymandering, electoral college, etc.) #3 Establish mechanisms to overturn elections with an outcome you don't like, in case you still lose in spite of #1 and #2, #4 Do away with elections altogether?

OK that was weird... there was a lag so I hit "reply" a couple of times and ended up with duplicate posts. Sorry!

YTTV & Fox: fix your shit and stop trying to minmax your fucking quarterly earnings using football as a hostage. Somewhere in my junk pile I have an old OTA antenna but I don't want to fuck around with my TV setup to hook it up. Plus I much prefer to watch games on DVR so I can skip ads.

Motherfucker all the good heavy stuff jumped over me or just slightly west of me. Why is it so scattered and random. One guy can get nothing while a half mile down the road someone else gets 3 inches.

corporation for public broadcasting shutting down
yeah but i need oil to make the smoke tune in my bro truck go brrrrrp. Real talk: in 2024, turnout was pretty darn high, something like 88% of registered voters voted, if the numbers I'm finding are correct. About 64% of eligible voters voted. For the many eligible voters who are not registered, or the registered voters who chose not to vote, it's not clear to me that their vote would have changed the outcome. This Pew Research article suggests that, of the nonvoting bloc, 44% of nonvoters preferred Trump and 40% preferred Harris. I'd love to think that the problem is turnout, but I think the real problem is that people are malicious idiots.
