Jeffrey Epstein needs his own thread
If you thought Ghost of LL was upset about a random notification in the Epstein thread, imagine how Volantis will feel about his name being brought up.

Trump’s America
It's not complicated: it's incredibly difficult to change your - or someone else's - mind about something you or they "know" to be true. "Democrats are idealistic idiots who don't understand the real world." "Abortion is a mortal sin." "Republicans stand for traditional family values." "My life turned out okay, so these lazy kids should be able to sort shit out as well." There are plenty of folks out there that grew up with those beliefs as their reality. Not changing our minds about our core beliefs is hardwired into us, probably because it was highly successful in the ancestral environment. Immutable beliefs form an anchor on which we base our identities, and our stupid human meat brains will turn themselves inside out to rationalize or avoid challenging those beliefs. Unfortunately, we all run on stupid human meat brains. It's easy to "other" all Trump voters as cowards or liars or stupid or evil. That's not saying that there aren't cowards and liars and morons and evil people among them; the current administration is likely very attractive to them. Despite that, a good chunk of Trump voters are just probably just regular people who love their kids and their pets, and who happen to have a background and upbringing that led them to being on Team R. There are plenty of posters on this board who grew up with Team R as the default. This does not mean Team R voters are not currently dangerous. It's strongly in the interests of pretty much everyone, really, to get as many of them as possible to change their mind. "Fuck 'em" doesn't actually help us not have a declining narcissist in charge of the nuclear codes. You mention that you can't fathom how people support him. You should try to understand it. Seriously. It's easy to say, "Well, I figured it out! Why can't those chucklefucks?!" It's awesome that you had a more accurate source of truth than these people did, or that you perhaps had a background that led you to more instinctively introspect those particular beliefs. They didn't. And it's not hard to trick most people - even very smart, educated people - into believing something and denying the ever-loving shit out of reality, even when they're supposedly in a critical mindset. I can't find the full plaintext freely available, but briefly, a bunch of scientists were told that they were going to evaluate a teaching method. They followed the method's instructions, and after those instructions were "proven accurate", they contained an incorrect formula for determining the volume of a sphere. The scientists filled up physical spheres that were in front of them with water, dumped that water into a marked cylinder to measure the volume, and then mostly made up a bunch of shit to account for why their observations didn't match the formula provided. They almost never said, "Hey, I think this formula might be bullshit." It's hard to change your mind. To be clear, I'm not calling out you specifically on this, Ted - your post was just an example - and I'm not saying that I'm not guilty of doing exactly the same thing. Ask questions. Be curious about why people believe what they believe, and why they believe that they believe it. As frustrating and disheartening as it is to have posters vanish or argue in bad faith when the cognitive dissonance gets to be too much for them, I guess I feel like we've still got to at least try unless someone is actively trolling. I'm glad @jkates is engaging. I hope he figures out his formula is bullshit.

Trump’s America
Thank you for being willing to engage in discussion. You mentioned that you've been unwilling to vote for a Democrat for state/national office because the national platform contains things that you'd never vote for. Could you give a couple examples, please?

Texas -- a failed state
@pyrohornIII - this is something I'd love to ask a TDP leader about.

With no malice intended, this should absolutely cause you to question your personal media silo.

Trump’s America
It's this sort of thinking that just goes to show how wrongheaded most people are about the law. How could anyone possibly answer that question without knowing what color you are, who you voted for, and whether or not you work for ICE?

ICE activity/raids
I have quibbles with this list, but it's generally solid advice. Even if you are not comfortable with a gun in your home - but especially if you are or plan to become a gun owner - you really, really, really, really, really need to know how to perform emergency first aid and have the tools to do so at hand. Virtual classes are available. You are not too busy. You're significantly more likely to need to perform first aid than to play John Rambo. Don't watch someone you love die because it seemed like too much trouble.
