I picked up their 1792 Full Proof store pick as well a couple weeks ago. I haven't bought their store pick on the 4R barrel proof SiB, but I imagine it's probably pretty damn good, and they've got a pretty decent amount of it. Check out NW Hills Liquor on Mesa if you haven't already. I picked up a bottle of RY10 a couple weeks ago there for ~$50.

Deb's does indeed have some gems. I paid $40 for Weller Antique a couple weeks ago because I just don't see it very often. However, I passed on Blanton's for $79 because I'm just not ready to pay more than ~$65 for it yet.

After opening, how long do you guys take to work through the rare bottles? I opened a '17 THH about 5 weeks ago, and we're almost 1/3 through it. We've shared it with some friends, but it's so damn good that I have a hard time not sneaking in a pour every few days. Gonna be pretty sad when it's gone. I haven't opened the '17 WLW yet. Probably gonna wait until something worthwhile to crack it open. I have a feeling that one is gonna take longer than the THH to work through, but who knows.

I'm not even sure what I'm looking at there, but I'm positive that it makes me ragey.

Northwest Hills Liquor on Far West has Blood Oath (assume it's Pact #4, but not 100% sure) for $90. Manager said he's trying to open up some shelf space and wants to sell last 3 he has. Offered it to me for $80, but since I grabbed his last bottle of RY10, I passed. My wife is seriously questioning my bourbon purchases at this point. It's becoming an almost daily question of "So, what did you buy today?" when I get home. I was distracted by the RY10, and now I am second-guessing his price offer on the BO. He may have even offered for $70. Just FYI in case that price sways anyone here who is on the fence.

There’s a bottle of Yippee Ki-Yay at TW Mueller for $80 if anyone wants it.
  7. No shit. Yes, it's going to be hot. Yes, it's been said 4 billion times already. The heat discussion in this thread feels like I stepped into a discussion with my mother-in-law where it's just me listening to her complain about the same thing over and over until we finally get to leave.

Weird. OWA was $40 last week at Deb's.
  9. I look forward to the Austin Super Regional thread.

You might be surprised. There are store managers out there who don't subscribe to the philosophy of holding on to their allocated bottles for only the biggest of spenders in their store. I've landed WLW & Handy in addition to ETL at my local shop with good timing. And I know @Bozo_Casanova has gotten his hands on incredible bottles by forming a friendly relationship, not by out-spending other customers. Although he might be outspending other customers, I'm not sure.

I passed on one yesterday for $40. I’m still kinda kicking myself, but I think I can get it for $30 and I had already dropped more than I intended on yesterday’s run.
  12. Sneaky good choice. I’ve had a few top notch cocktails there as well.

I’m running out of shelf space. Had to start another bourbon section in the pantry.

I picked up a bottle of ER for $35 and snagged the 1792 Barrel Proof for $50. I may have to go back for the RY10 after work. They have 2 bottles. Also had some hit or miss prices on: 4R SiB Barrel Strength W12 ($70!) Weller Antique EHT Small Batch Elijah Craig Small Batch Barrel Proof 2 more 750 bottles of ER as well as a 1.75 bottle that I didn't ask the price.

Question. Is the Rebel Yell 10yr worth $70?

Looks awesome. Btw, the golf thread is under the Hobbies board. You've actually posted on the thread.
  17. Odds are good that @BTW knows your brother, assuming he lives in Midland.

The Specs on airport has turned into a pile of garbage over the last few years. Their beer started to crater first, and then got somewhat better, right about in time for their whiskey to go to shit. Not to mention their staff has gotten significantly more dickish and now lazily push the same gross shit over and over. Found 2 new stores that stock a great selection of beer and booze (specifically whiskey) and treat customers like customers instead of like people there wasting their time. I most likely won’t step foot into spec’s from here on out.
  20. Olive & June got close for me, but I agree, my best restaurant in Austin choice was never an Italian place.
  21. Communal seating has a time and place for me. I've really enjoyed it, and I've also not been in the mood for it. What gets me more than the communal tables at Sway is not being able to hear the person next to me because it's so loud in there. I'll sit at a big table with people, but I'm not into yelling in a restaurant in order to have a conversation. Unless things have changed, if I'm not sitting outside or at the bar, I'm pretty out on Sway. Which sucks, because I think the food is top notch.

While it makes sense in theory, I agree with On Board in that time and process are both important here. Speeding up the process seems a bit like reheating food in the microwave vs. the oven. They're both going to get to the same temp. The microwave is going to do it a lot faster and the oven is going to make it taste and feel a lot better. Or I could smoke a brisket at 350 and get it to temp much faster than doing so at 220, but I know which brisket I am going to want to actually eat.

True or not, it’s definitely a talking point during the Garrison tour. “Our 4/5 year is the same as someone else’s 8/10 year”
  24. That's a good order. I usually go Strait Plate: Hold the onions. Add japs and an extra fried egg.
