Proud dad moment: Our 16 month old daughter found a UT blanket in a closet and now drags it around the house so she can lay on it.
Im already stressing about her making top 6% (or whatever it is now) so she can get into the school.
I grew up in Plainview, which is where Emily is from. She was my sisters babysitter a time or two growing up. I had no game at the age of 10 so that’s where the story ends. There might be a disposal camera somewhere at my parents house with a pic. Csb/
We lost our goldendoodle, Lucy, about a month ago. She was a seemingly healthy, 7 year old with no signs of major medical issues. We were visiting some family and had just arrived at their house on beautiful Sunday morning. Lucy ran around saying hi to everyone in the front yard and then all of a sudden ran back to my feet and collapsed. She was dead within 2 minutes. Just had a massive heart attack and that was it. She was every bit my dog and buddy. She and I were always together.
There is a lamp in our house, near the spot her food and water ball sat. The night we got home after losing her, I went over to turn that lamp on and it visibly flickered for a second and then came on. It took me by surprise because the lamp had never done that before in the hundreds of times I had turned it on. A few days later, we received her cremated remains. That night I turned on the same lamp and the bulb flickered and died. I lost it then and I still get some dust in my eyes from time to time when I go to that lamp.
It's a fresh loss, so I'm sure it gets better with time, but I have a hard time seeing anything related to a dog being hurt / lost / etc.
I grew up in Plainview and, generally, have a positive view of my childhood. That said, I prefer and enjoy living in a larger city. Did my time in Austin while at school and now in the DFW area. There are many more job opportunities and earnings potential than in a small town.
My parents live up in Borger now, and I enjoy visiting them with the wife and kid a time or two each year. I like the slower pace of life a small town can afford, but not enough to make it permanent. I also like being able to see the stars at night. They just aren't bright enough in the big city.
Anyone watching this rockets / lakers game? Lakers have a guy named Ingram playing on a 10 day contract. He's 32 years old and its his first career, NBA game. Played over 380 games in development and minor leagues. Dude drilled his first three pointer. Good for him.
I’ve gotten to the point where I enjoy the away games more. We pick one of the better road games each year and make a long weekend trip out of it. It’s cool seeing the set up and traditions at other schools. Then, if the game goes poorly...cough, cal game, cough...at least you got a vacation out of the rest of the weekend.
And the OU game. I agree with a lot of what others have said about the money and time commitment to make it to a game, but the OU game is the one that being there is person matters.
I was on a flight from Austin to Denver for the UT - Colorado football game in 2008. We board the plane and Earl is sitting right in the front row. We exchanged a hook’em. Later in the flight the flight attendant handed him the mic and he led the plane in the Eyes of Texas.
Metallica's Summer Sanitarium tour in 2000. The tour include Korn, System of a Down and Kid Rock. Pretty sweet set up for 15 year old me. There were quite a few ladies in the crowd flashing the boobs during the day, so it was very much a success
Hetfield had hurt himself prior to the show in Irving and missed the gig. They brought out the rest of Metallica for their set and then rotated the band's singers through to do mash ups.
People who get into a crowded elevator and face the rear of the elevator car. Heaven forbid it is on a low floor and then you have 20-30 floors worth of awkward eye contact ahead of you.
He's running a tour this summer. Several stops in Texas. I picked up tickets to the show in Dallas in late July.
I'm a big fan of his podcast. He has a few topics that seems to carry from one podcast to the next. Those same topics showed up in his last Netflix stand up special. Looking back, you can tell he was workshopping the material over a few months worth of podcasts. Sounds like the gun talk is one of those topics this time around. He's brought it up the past few weeks on the pod.
They have had a few songs featured in the credits of the Silicon Valley. I hadn't heard of them until i looked up the songs from the show. Definitely a group worth knowing about.
So many options and opinions on this but here's a few that I want to share with my kids someday that aren't on your current list:
Saving Private Ryan
Ghostbusters (1984)
Godfather 1 and 2
Fast times at Ridgemont High
Supertroopers
Man on Wire (documentary)
I catch the first one on tv from time to time. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of watching it so much growing up, but I think it has held up well. Count me in for part deux.
I don’t have the exerience that most of y’all have, but my brother in law is 25 with Down syndrome. One of the best things for him is participating in special olymipics. He’s incredibly active in that which gives him tons of friends and exercise. Some communities have better organizations than others, so you have to research that. He was in Round Rock for awhile but now is in Allen. Both seemed to have great programs.
It’s a blast going to his events and seeing all the support the kids receive and watching them play.
