I think she's a figment of Lilly's imagination.

The Running Man (2025)
I knew him from Pushing Daisies, which was one of the most underrated tv shows ever, as well as Bodies Bodies Bodies, which was a great indie horror movie. Saw this today and it was fine; it's just hard for me to see Glenn Powell as "the angriest man ever". Plus, I will watch Colman Domingo in anything, though, and Edgar Wright makes a great action movie, even if the content isn't perfect. I'd recommend it for streaming if you're on the fence about seeing in it the theater.

Vince Gilligan back to doing sci-fi X-Files shit? 1000% in. Loved the first episode.

It: Welcome to Derry (HBO)
Lol it's his second-longest book at around 1200 pages. And it's only second to the uncut version of The Stand, not the original version. IIRC, Dick is mentioned briefly in the book when they discuss the Black Spot (the nightclub that burns down). I'm still not a huge fan of this show but I'll give it another episode or so.

Halloween/Horror Movie Thread
Black Philip is indeed creepy af. But honestly, all goats are creepy af with their rectangular pupils. My 13-yo and I saw this in the theater and liked it a lot. A horror masterpiece it is not, but it's fun for what it is. Sometimes you just want dumb fun movies. We both couldn't stop laughing at the scene with the rotary phone.

IDK how these motherfuckers just fly into hurricanes. I have to pop a Xanax for a short flight on a sunny day.

Trump’s America
If we learn nothing else from the disaster scenario in which we currently live, it's that bad actors can find loopholes everywhere and there's no way to write a completely airtight set of rules to govern a democracy. For civilized society to remain civil, you have to be able to rely somewhat on people applying laws and rules in the manner in which they were intended. We're never going to get anywhere if we spend all our time arguing over what the word "shall" means in the 22nd amendment. American society is a Jenga tower that has relied more heavily on norms than most of us believed, and we're one or two blocks away from the whole thing falling down. All it took was a cult of personality and a few social media algorithms.

Didn't love it, but it's a pilot so I'll definitely give it a few more episodes, especially because of I'm not super interested in the military storyline, but ok. Let's see what happens. I'm much more interested in the Hanlon family story and I hope they go into what happens at the nightclub. I'll spoiler this next thing just in case, but it's something interesting I noticed in IMDB.- The Italy Thread
Really, the goal is to get away from everyone else for a bit. If y'all have recs for other places to visit close to Rome, I'm all ears!- The Italy Thread
We'll be in Rome in December with our kids, my in-laws, and @HornOnTheBayou's sisters. We'd like to get away one night on our own, maybe to Firenze. Is there a good quick overnight trip for us to take by train, where we can chill and drink good wine and food without the kids or the rest of the family. And take a break from the full-on touristy stuff the rest of the family wants to do. I speak about an intermediate level of Italian so regions where very little English is spoken would be ok. Any recs for places to stay and places to eat/things to see?- All things SNL
All this. I loled when they called that kid unc.- Trump’s America
The day of the wedding, I actually had a conversation with someone about the dove hunt they'd gone on the day before. 😂- Halloween/Horror Movie Thread
Hereditary is my 17-yo's favorite movie - we watch a lot of horror, and he compares everything to it. Highly recommend Midsommar too. I haven't enjoyed Ari Aster's last two movies as much, but I'm hoping he goes back to his horror roots soon. This is one of my favorite horror movies. A couple of Halloweens ago, I dressed up as Grace. Carried around a Red Ryder BB gun for trick-or-treating.- It’s Time for Organized Resistance

Thanks for the rec - we won't be there that long this time but I'll remember this for future trips to SETX.- Trump’s America

This is tangential, but did y'all know that the Frank Wilhoit who originally said that line is not the political scientist, but another Frank Wilhoit who was posting a comment to a blog post? This Slate article goes into it more, but it's such a weird coincidence.- This guy Peter Thiel
I posted this Wired article in a different thread a few weeks ago, but it's well worth the read. The Real Stakes, and Real Story, of Peter Thiel’s Antichrist Obsession Thirty years ago, a peace-loving Austrian theologian spoke to Peter Thiel about the apocalyptic theories of Nazi jurist Carl Schmitt. They’ve been a road map for the billionaire ever since.- Ghislaine "Sgt. Schultz" Maxwell: "I know NOTH-ING"
