  1. This team is unlike any I can recall at Texas. We are absolutely elite at getting to the line and shoot a reasonable percent once we get there. It is such an advantage to be in double bonus with 10+ minutes to go in the game. Not only do we get high percentage points from the line, but the other team has to decrease their aggressiveness to compensate for the foul trouble (or send key players to the bench or foul them out). Agree with Derka on players filling roles. I also like what Tramon Mark has been doing in our win streak, averaging 13.4 PTS, 4.2 TRB and coming up with some key offensive rebounds and midrange shots. He is getting into the lane more and also getting to the line. I wish that we could get some more shots from Heide. It seems like he should be taking twice as many 3s per game. His 0.732 eFG% is just insane. I also think our rebounding is a very big advantage, especially when combined with our efficiency. We are holding our opponents to 20.3 DRB per game, which is 6th in the country. That means more second chances for us, which is huge when combined with our efficiency. That also means less transition opportunities for our opponents (except for our damn turnovers). If we could firm up our perimeter defense and stop fouling the shit out of our opponents, we have the makings of a very dangerous tourney team.
  2. Not really disagreeing. Just saying that it seems like we have 3 classes of elite coaches right now in hoops… - The 62+ year old legends like Izzo, Self, Few, Calipari, Sampson - The 50+ yr old accomplished coaches who are taking center stage - The 40 year old young bucks I’m glad we have someone in the middle camp. The young guys are too risky.
  3. None of those names are exactly “young”. Lloyd, Oats, Beard are all 51+. For me, they are in the category of “proven solid coaches with 10-15 years of runway” along with Matt Painter (55) Sean Miller (57) and others. The best of this group would be Hurley (52) and maybe Scott Drew (54). The “young” group includes Golden (40) and Scheyer (37).
  4. Given Trump's propensity to lie / exaggerate, and the fact that his base is frothing to see big numbers of deportations, I have to assume that if anything the number of Trump deportations is overstated. But I don't really know where those numbers come from and how much control he has over them. Also, Obama's first term, it looks like 1.6M "self-deported". So Trump's run rate is 4X higher, which I guess makes sense given the programs in place now to incentivize self deportation. Also I'm sure the intimidation tactics play a role.
  5. Lol. Dude has gotten worse every single year. I thought he might be really good in 2023. But by the end of the next year, I knew he was a fraud.
  6. Yep, that describes me. I think it is important to understand the whole context in any conflict or issue. That is why I engaged in this thread. You can believe what you like. Some of the responses have been very enlightening for me, especially the one by fuggled. It was very well laid out and insightful.
  7. I appreciate all of the responses and the insight into what has changed in the tactics. In my view some of the changes are just a natural outcome of the downward spiral in divisiveness of our country. Each side inflaming their base and escalating at every turn. Bad hiring and training of ICE agents + ICE intimidation tactics + Media inflammation and sensationalizing + Doxing and harassment of ICE agents + Sanctuary city resistance + Trump pettiness and retaliation + Crazy white women chaos + ICE poor situational management + Each political side leveraging the events All adding up to one giant shit show. It is interesting to me that Trump has greatly increased ICE capacity and rewrote / broke all these legal precedents… and yet the number of actual deportations isn’t that much higher. It makes me wonder if all the changes are overblown… or if this administration is just inefficient AF. I have a natural disdain for the media, which is one reason I have paid less attention to all of this. It is impossible to find a legitimately unbiased take on the situation.
  8. I'm sure it has been brought up in this thread, but I'm not going back and reading 44 pages worth. I'm genuinely curious why Obama using ICE to deport 3.1M people was not met with the same criticism. I didn't hear complaints that it was an illegitimate agency back then. Maybe the complaints existed but I just wasn't following it. At his peak, Obama deported 407,000 (2012) vs. Trump deporting 600,000 last year. We are deporting more for sure, but it isn't like Trump just invented the agency. Have their methods changed? Recruiting? Policies? Or have we simply changed as a country and now find it unacceptable?
  9. Bracket Matrix currently has us as the top 11-seed. Best bracket for us is a 9-seed. Worst is a 12-seed. SEC overall looks like this: Florida - 3 seed Vanderbilt - 4-seed Alabama - 5-seed Tennessee - 5-seed Arkansas - 6-seed Kentucky - 7-seed Auburn - 8-seed Aggy - 9-seed Georgia - 9-seed Texas - 11-seed ( 100 / 109 brackets) Mizzou - 11-seed (50 / 109 brackets) Other Texas Opponents: Duke - 1-seed UConn - 1-seed Virginia - 4-seed NC State - 7-seed If we can Mizzou, UGA and LSU, we could be projected as an 8 or 9 seed by the time Florida comes to town.

Looks pretty damn good to me. Just about all of them have made an All-Rookie team. Half of them made an All-Star game. Several VMPs, DPoYs, Rebounding, scoring and blocks champs and major roles on NBA title teams. Only a couple of complete busts. Way better hit rate than the top-10 draft picks each year. And the ones who under-performed like Beasley, Tyreke Evans, Lonzo Ball were derailed by drugs or injuries. Zion Williamson - 2X All Star, 1st Team All-Rookie Anthony Davis - NBA Champ, 5X All-NBA, 10X All-Star Cooper Flagg - Likely RoY, Future All-NBA Michael Beasley - All-Rookie, 238 Game Starter Kevin Love - NBA Champ, 2X All-NBA, 5X All-Star Chet Holmgren - NBA Champ, #2 RoY, Likely '26 DPoY Karl-Anthony Towns - RoY, 3X All-NBA, 5X All-Star Evan Mobley - DPoY, 1X All-NBA, 1X All-Star James Harden - MVP, 8X All-NBA, 11X All-Star Nerlens Noel - All-Rookie, 223 Game Starter Lonzo Ball - All-Rookie, 256 Game Starter Brandon Miller - Too Early. All-Rookie Onyeka Okongwu - 113 Game Starter, Meh Cody Zeller - All-Rookie, 275 Game Starter Reed Sheppard - Too Early Robbie Hummel - Meh D'Angelo Russell - All Rookie, 1X All-Star, 539 Game Starter Gordon Hayward 1X All-Star, 649 Game Starter Donovan Clingan - Too Early. All Rookie Tyreke Evans - RoY, 426 Game Starter Jaren Jackson - DPoY, 2X All-Star, 3X All-Def Joel Embiid - MVP, 5X All-NBA, 7X All-Star
  11. Beard is probably the best program promoter in college basketball. We will never get someone that good at building support again, because I’m not sure such a person exists. Regardless, Men’s hoops is the #2 sport in NCAA. If we show any life there will be plenty of donor support. You really want to be the billionaire supporting women’s golf when the men’s hoops program gets rolling and you have to watch your billionaire UT Hoops donor friends gloat during March Madness?
  12. To be clear, I’m not saying it will happen either. I just view it as our maximum upside. I agree we will finish somewhere close to 0.500.
