All encompassing PAC 4 thread
I keep reading comments about the weather and I get that the perception of the PAC 12 is all sunshine and beach parties, but you do realize that SC and UCLA have had to play at places like Pullman, Salt Lake City and Boulder in November/December? Many times those games are in ice and snow. If not those places, you get the steady 40 degree downpours in Seattle, Eugene and Corvallis. Or the one kajillion degrees in Tempe in September. The weather angle is so overrated IMO.

Well yeah but they sure as hell could have made it a condition of joining.

Realignment talk not going away
I know everyone is assuming Oregon and Washington would be next into the B1G but this part of an analysis from the LA Times caught my eye: The Cardinal would be a more palatable West Coast partner for USC and UCLA than the Ducks and Huskies. Both L.A. schools are sick of Oregon with its Nike flash coming into Southern California and stealing top talent, and USC’s and UCLA’s move to the Big Ten has wounded the Ducks. https://www.latimes.com/sports/story/2022-07-02/big-ten-expansion-impacts-usc-ucla-notre-dame-football So maybe SC and UCLA might not be so hot on Oregon joining them? Or may even try to actively block them? Wasn’t something I had considered before.

Except unlike aggy, UCLA is better than the “flagship” across virtually every sport.

The Texpatriates Thread
Check out Alpine County, liberal AND in the Sierras. Honestly it sounds pretty good: A rural county in heart of red California votes more like San Francisco. Here’s why https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2022-06-05/alpine-county-democratic-speck-in-rural-california-republicans?_amp=true

Gigantic film studios to be built in San Marcos 2023
As an employee of a studio, I can say this is exactly correct. Without the 20%-30% tax credits, productions won’t come to use the sound stages.

Elon Musk: Nazi traitor piece of shit [Confirmed]
Hmmm, well whaddya know… NHTSA steps up Tesla investigation of phantom braking, crashes into emergency vehicles As of last month, NHTSA says it’s received 758 reports from folks claiming “unexpected brake activation” in their Model 3 or Model Y. Just today, the NHTSA said it’s upgrading the investigation from “probe” status to an “engineering analysis.” https://www.autoblog.com/amp/2022/06/09/nhtsa-investigation-tesla-phantom-braking/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAKTn3hNxwOYEK5zkqZZKVDJoufxBKQ0VKbF4DX5_W9xlkiRgtGskLzdYmBUpAO-ZP1O62AiD6Uynwm404ybIWePhPJK6IHmRgSqMeYpsgzEFz2V8EBKZJFTBmDa-xKnZ-zDuR24Mmk9gWrau-DN63B4PhHSESd7_oW-CkaQQ6ewO

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
Well yeah, it’s not a total preventative, but supposedly it makes symptoms milder or even non-existent. Given that I feel like complete shit today (fever, lost voice, aches, breathing difficulties, etc) I shudder to think what would have happened with no vax. Of course our 6 year old (vaccinated) has continuously tested negative while our 4 year olds (both ineligible for the vaccine) tested positive. So maybe it does help some people not get it?

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
My other half came back from a convention in Vegas last week, and the we all (us and 3 kids) hopped in the car for a 5 hour trip up north. Welp, Vegas patient zero came down with it Saturday (after everyone who went to Vegas texting and saying they got it). By Monday 2 of the three kids tested positive. And then I tested positive Tuesday. it’s all just moderate cold symptoms so nothing too crazy. It’s basically settled in my throat now and I can’t talk. Some would say that’s for the best. The worst part is the kids being excluded from day care for the next two weeks. I was vaxed and double boosted so this shit is extremely contagious.

Elon Musk: Nazi traitor piece of shit [Confirmed]
Hey Elon, we took a road trip in our Model Y up to the Bay Area over Memorial Day and TWICE when we were going 80 on the interstate in cruise control the car suddenly slammed on its brakes for no fucking reason. Not only did it scare the shit out of us, it for sure scared the shit out of the people behind us. When I got home I googled it and sure enough: Tesla is under federal scrutiny for ‘phantom braking’ complaints https://www.latimes.com/business/technology/story/2022-02-02/tesla-is-under-federal-scrutiny-for-phantom-braking-complaints?_amp=true So how about fixing your fucking cars before the kill someone (oh wait too late) instead of being concerned where Mary in Payroll is approving timesheets? God I can’t wait until the Rivian is delivered so we can sell this POS.

Wouldn’t having 3 permanent rivals essentially equate to being in a pod?

Yeah it’s like the SEC is doing the “anti-NFL”. The NFL is successful for many reasons, but a main one is maintaining interest across the entire US through successful franchises in places like Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Boston, LA, Kansas City, etc. It’s not some walled-off garden where only a subset of regional teams have a chance to succeed. An SEC-only playoff is lose/lose. It further regionalizes interest while damaging the national appeal of CFB. It may be a short-term money gain for the SEC, but it’s likely a long-term loss for the sport.

Fucking phenomenal if true. Go on the offensive and damage Russia’s ability to fund the war. Hopefully more of Russia’s oil infrastructure is within striking distance of Ukraine.- Lincoln Riley to USC

- Ukraine War
I am honestly amazed you think the Russian people have any say in what is going on. Putin and his oligarch friends have complete control of everything (military, police, parliament, major corporations, etc). Dangling “NATO membership” in front of the Russian people is like eating a steak outside the window of the lion enclosure at the zoo. You’re sure the lion wants it, but the lion is completely aware of the electric fence, razor wire, and armed zookeepers, so…. Meh? - Русский корабль - иди нахуй
