  1. Kuiu Camo and cheap rubber short boots; I like the “duality of man” statement : )
  2. Tell me about these suede (?) looking moon boots you’re wearing. Did you get any blood on them?
  3. No, but includes a bag filter, life straw, and jetboil. I’ll probably leave the life straw at the truck. Our trail parallels a pretty big stream, so hopefully we’ll have plenty of water not too far from camp
  4. This backpack has a load shelf you can create between the frame and the bag, and the bag comes off the frame and I have a cargo net I can swap on. Yes it will be multiple trips if we can’t get a horse pack-out service. A big bull is probably 3 man-trips minimum with 70-100lbs each trip. I would fully debone the quarters and load the meat in bags for transport. Bones are heavy. This suppressor is only 8oz. I have permanent hearing loss and irritating tinnitus in my left ear that started four years ago on the day I shot my first elk. (3 shots of braked 300 Weatherby with a huge pinion just to my left). I’m doing everything I can from here on to protect my right ear and not damage my left ear anymore. For where we hunt, sometimes things happen quickly; e.g. you haven’t seen anything in days and then all of a sudden a bull walks out but you may only have seconds to make a decision and get a shot off. If it’s cold, you’re trying to pull your glove off, dig out a foam plug and cram it in your ear as you’re trying to glass, range and get set up on this bull; it just doesn’t happen. Also if you’re hunting with a partner, it’s hard to communicate with each other quietly over earplugs.
  5. I head to Colorado for elk in 8 days. Planning to pack 5 miles in, 2500’ up to the spot I went and scouted about 6 weeks ago. Packed up all my “like to have” gear and dehydrated food for 7 days and it’s 71lbs. Yikes. Going to have to cut. We’re trying to find some horse pack-in help, which if that happens will make things a lot easier.
  6. Had my turkey from this spring mounted.
  7. West Texas Feeder Supply stuff is really good: https://westtexasfeedersupply.com/product-category/solar-chargers/ I also have enjoyed the Spypoint Cameras and their ap, getting photos, etc. I got my dad two cameras for his b-day and set everything up for him and logged in on my phone as well. Fun.
  8. That’s a great way to do it; good luck closing the deal on another one!
  9. @hornmpa96 that’s awesome! Congrats to your son, and welcome to the rest of his life - you’re a different man when you’ve pulled a bull elk out of the woods. Are you getting that bull off the mountain and then going back to look for another or what? I head up October 9 for first rifle season.
  10. Good used O/Us Other than Citoris (I don’t follow current manufacture that closely, but these have been good for decades): Beretta Browning Superposed Weatherby Orion Ruger Red Label Winchester 101
  11. @Pato del Muerto doe I’m assuming? How did he do lining up the shot? Any shakes/nerves? Nice job finding a way to get him out and glad you had a good experience!
  12. @CleverNickname How many pieces we talking? Rock Island opened up an operation in Bedford TX https://www.rockislandauction.com
  13. Duke receivers couldn’t catch anything for the third/early forth quarter, then Malik and the offense gets going and Manny pulls them them off the field to kick for the tie, and of course the kick goes wide. It was obvious to keep them on the field and go for the win there. Northwestern gives the ball right back and here we go again.
  14. I think the big problem was digital tagging: it’s a PITA, saves no time/steps, and there was anecdotal data of TPWD using location data from when/where digital tags were filed to find/roll up on hunting camps (unacceptable). Here’s the info on digital tagging:
  15. Got out this morning; only saw 5 birds, knocked one down. It’s been raining for 2hrs this afternoon. Watching turkeys and deer from the house and rewatching the Texas game.
  16. Got the kids shooting 22s today and wokked on feeders and cameras. Put my cold bore shot and two followers on a 10” target at 659 yards with my 7PRC; ready for my elk hunt. I Posted this in the gun thread as well, best cold bore shot I’ve ever made, feeling good.
  17. Getting tuned up for elk hunting this year. Ruger American in 7PRC. 659 yards
  18. @solamente73 are you getting the blesbok and impala shipped back / mounted?
  19. I like Texas whitetail hunting and love deer lease culture/spirit as well, but getting on elk in the wilderness is just amazing to me.
  20. I had a good weekend scouting trip to CO. Found a great looking spot 5 miles up into the wilderness, but it’s a tough hike; starts at 8600’, ends up at 10,800’ with lots of elevation up/down along the way, and 17 water crossings (some really minor and some you have to be really careful rock-to-rock or you’re going to go over your boots). I slipped once and did get water in my boot. Both boots got soaked through eventually and never could dry out between the water crossings and rain. Camped at 9000’ feet and had a massive un-forecasted thunderstorm roll in at 11pm and kept me up most of the night. Soaked a lot of my gear. Did 13 miles Saturday checking other spots and getting out, had to hike ~2 hrs in the rain. It was a little bit more of an ass whip than I wanted it to be, but I saw some pretty country. Saw a cinnamon colored black bear about a cute as Winnie the Pooh on the way in. Couldn’t get a pic before he saw me and scrammed. Lots of waterfalls along the way.
  21. @solamente73 beautiful impala and great story, thanks! I’ve been refraining from nagging you for more details : ) Beautiful country you were hunting, and always special to hunt with the rancher’s family.
  22. @Reagan1k a full mount porcupine is bad ass
  23. Behind my company’s office on 360. Would be fun to sneak in on a weekend with my bow Heading to Colorado tomorrow to scout a new area for elk hunting this fall.
  24. Yeah it took a 4’ cheater bar to crank down the vice and then on the action wrench as well. I was worried I was going to bend the vice handle. I used Wheeler tools and Wheeler lead shims on the barrel and action and got it done with no marring.
  25. Used factory take off. If Tikka doesn’t chamber in 7PRC this year I may buy a used magnum action and put a preferred barrel prefit on it. That and a folding carbon stock would be a neat setup.
