  1. We’re doing a barn addition this year. Got all the framing up a few weeks ago. I’m refinishing one of my rifle stocks, got the kids to help, should be a nice memory for them down the road. We have a nice main frame 10 with 2 kickers I got some pics of through binos last week. I put out a trail cam so might have more photos of him soon. I believe he was a 12 last year, probably 3 yrs old last year and 4 this year.
  2. Would you be so kind as to post the recipe for this, good sir?
  3. Yes, a dozer and a skid steer with grapple are an amazing combination for getting brush removal done post haste. We ran open cab machines for 30 years and finally went to glass cabs. We can work longer and more effectively in the a/c without all the smoke, dust, and noise. Plus I’m not so worn out at the end of the day and can enjoy a family evening more. Saved me from a beehive inside a dead tree I pushed as well. We shred with the farm tractor, and we don’t shred brush. My dad is a stump nazi - anything that will leave a stump gets pulled out with the dozer or the bobcat. He built a great grubber for the skid steer: We used to do brush removal 20 years ago with just a bucket on a bobcat and I honestly looking back I can’t believe we got anything done without the grapple - it’s ridiculously more efficient at shuttling/stacking compared to a bucket.
  4. Own. Bought used about three years ago. Only issue was an electrical gremlin that took about a grand to find and fix. It’s really really nice to have equipment at your disposal and convenience; I only run it about a day or so a month on the weekend and we have ranch hand types that will run it for us occasionally during the week on projects. I know we’ve cleared over 10,000 cedars in the last few years; probably closer to 20,000. On a good day in easy terrain I can clear and stack over 500 medium size cedars with the dozer. We will probably sell it in another year when we have all the big cedar clearing done and we can maintain the place going forward with skid steers. Pretty gratifying to turn a cedar brake monoculture almost devoid of wildlife into an grass savanna with intermittent oaks, or a nice food plot.
  5. We had a really dry summer which afforded the opportunity to get a silted-in pond excavated and improved a few weeks ago, along with brush cleared and ground reseeded adjacent to a seasonal spring and creek upstream of the pond. Looking forward to seeing it this weekend after some rain. This should be a great turkey setup next spring.
  6. Things cooling off a little last week making the pool really nice lately.
  7. The wild game meat is fantastic over there. The hunting outfitters take great care of their game and have the meat processed both for use at the ranches and also for sale in supermarkets. I would trade kudu for beef any day.
  8. I went to South Africa last year, loved it. The 375 was a big hit on that trip, more energy than a 416 outside of 100 yards and great terminal performance with that Barnes LRX. I really want to go to Namibia next. Magnum shooting can be a little addictive once you figure out a setup that works for you. I was never a magnum shooter until I was getting myself practiced up for that trip, now I really only look forward to shooting magnums. Shooting at the ranch, I’ll take 20 rounds of something big over 20 mags of 5.56 any day.
  9. Fired up the reloading bench tonight and rolled some 375 Wby, 300 Wby, and 300 Win Mag. Exploring some unpublished high velocity loads with the 300’s and Hornady 212gr ELD-X. should be fun.
  10. I’d definitely plan on having the removable fence that goes right around the pool for safety regarding the baby. Also, a beach entry is great for little kids.
  11. Sanded and painted my control panel rack and did a little miscellaneous cleaning this weekend; had a good swim this pm with the kids. Grilling chops and enjoying a Jaime Garcia, IPA, and KUTX. Happy Father’s Day Pool Bros.
  12. We moved recently and chose a house with a pool (first pool for us). The kids are loving it and I dig it as well. The wife was anti to start but is really appreciating it for the activity time it generates for the kids. Backyard faces east so afternoon shade and south easterly breeze typically. Good expense so far.

Welp, I’m needing to relocate to the North side of San Antonio for work, so it’s going to be Canyon or Medina Lake for me (30+mile drive either way). Should I look for a boat locker close to the lake or closer to home? I’m thinking closer to home, but I’ll be putting more miles on the trailer that way, and incurring the inevitable road-related issues (tires, bearings, etc). I’m spoiled living close to my current locker/ramp.
  15. Humphrey you da man!
  16. I’m assuming your eating backstrap - it looks great - how do you cook it?
  17. We’ve had mules for 12 years and they’ve been great. I think we only had to replace a fuel pump or something on the first one in ~10 years of ownership. We sold it to get a newer model with fuel injection and power steering so it starts without choking and you can steer with one hand. I’ve known several guys that have had problems with their Polaris machines.
  18. Been watching this ol boy for three seasons and this afternoon it all came together.
  19. I’m not a duck hunter, but what does the forecast look like for your hunt dates and how old is the kid?
  20. Nice! What did you shoot it with? Great colors on those antlers.

The water was a brisk 56, but with air temps in the high 70s we had a nice afternoon yesterday:
  22. I put a friend onto one of my target bucks this morning, I have pics of him going back to 2016, aged at 6 this year: Tomorrow morning I’ll go out for myself, saw a ton of bucks today, really a great year at our place. Protein and food plotting regimen really showing results after 3-4 years.
  23. I posted about this gun in the Gun Owner’s thread a few months back. I saw it and thought I had it bought (for $750), but then I was told they sold it to someone else. I was let down and forgot about it for about a month, but out of curiosity, I checked with the gun shop and the guy they were holding it for hadn’t come to pick it up, so I was back in business. It’s a Flaig’s custom gun. FN Mauser action, Douglas barrel. Great, light trigger. Custom Flaig’s Circassian stock. Topped with a vintage Leupold VariX III 2-7 that I’ll probably replace at some point, but it’s definitely functional as is. Very light, shoulders quickly. Shoots easy off sticks, kicks a little off the bench. I’ll put a better recoil pad on and maybe a mercury recoil reducer in the stock at some point that will make it more fun off the bench. I have another Flaig’s custom in 375 Weatherby that I’ve posted about a fair amount, so this gun makes the start of a little custom gun collection for me. Flaig’s was an old-time German gunsmith in Pennsylvania that closed 30+ years ago. They were renowned for craftsmanship. I like modern firearms and all, but there’s nothing quite like an old time custom gunsmith’s workshop. I frequented several as a kid, and even now, remembering watching master smiths at their work amongst the smell of oiled machine steel, oiled walnut and gunpowder brings nostalgia flooding back. Hopefully we don’t lose all those special places where boys could stare wide-eyed at all of the wonderful creations built by the hands of men, listen, and learn.
  24. Got 8” of rain after seeding my plots, was worried they might have washed out, but germination looking good: Did a little shooting with this older custom gun I picked up a little while back, looking forward to some time in the blind.

Our secondary was bad, we couldn’t tackle the “mobile” quarterback, (same as it ever was (the last few years)). Combine that with Sam’s reduced accuracy and our inability to implement a consistent running game and we lose. The calls that could have gone either way broke pretty evenly. (E.g bad offsides call on Texas on the punt; Texas not penalized for holding in the endzone, etc.)
