Honduras are a very distasteful team, so this halftime score pleases me.

Austin Homeless Free for All Ordinance
Ya since our first was born we've stopped walking to Radio because that area is now dangerous. Besides the feces, needles, intoxicated people there, there has also been a few sexual assualts, 1 stabbing, and at least one case of indecent exposure towards the elementary school that I can think off offhand. Our kiddo just turned 2, so it's been a pretty steep nosedive and we've been in the neighborhood around 5 years. We were so pumped when Radio and El Chilito went in for the walkablity factor, but we just don't go to either unless driving. Shit like this is why people leave for the burbs.

You're giving CoA a lot of credit for foresight and working hand in hand with other gov't agencies, namely AISD. Glad to see you're an optimist. On a serious note, the only of the 4 that might be on the chopping block is St. Elmo per the NA chat; but that got pretty significant pushback from the over-involved in our neck of the woods for the reason Lobo mentioned.

Galindo, Dawson, St. Elmo, and Joslin are all pretty close elementary schools. Not to mention the Ann Richards School, which already has issues with the crowd around Ben White.

Also a nice little note: CoA is planning on buying it for 8-9 million, currently it is assessed at ~2 mil by TCAD. Either the city is way overpaying or commercial property is criminally undervalued, but seems like residents get screwed either way.

Yellowstone
When we went we did hikes to Observation Peak as well as Specimen Ridge. Neither were very difficult, Specimen ridge was definitely less crowded. We were told that Electric Peak was a good challenging hike, but ran out of time to even give it a try. We camped in the park itself and had issues getting into the campgrounds we wanted, it gets really f'ing crowded in the summer. It took getting up balls early and hustling ass to get one of the first come, first served sites in a decent campground. Honestly I enjoyed the Tetons more, but both they and Yellowstone should be required visits if you're in that part of the country.

It's funny because the Community First Village that everyone touts as such a success and blueprint to follow is actually out in the country.

Austin Homeless Free for All Ordinance
So I was talking to an architect buddy this morning. Apparently he went to some seminar on affordable housing or some such recently and heard some stats from whatever body was doing the presentation. 2000ish chronically homeless in Austin, another 7-9000 temp homeless out on the streets on any given night was the number thrown around. For each one COA spends $220,000/year on police, ems, outreach, etc. If you put them in some sort of housing that drops to $90,000. Hence the current push to put them in beds by city council. What he (and I) don't get is how you just put it one neighborhood. There is no way this will ever be equitable, but to just dump this one facility in South Austin is not only unfair, but a drop in the bucket to the scope of the problem. This facility is slated for 100 beds. ARCH is losing 60. Kitchen's response to this issue in our neighborhood has always been reactionary and minimalistic. This just continues the trend. Meanwhile my neighborhood is getting less safe. It was actually promising how many new young families have moved in in the last 4 years. I expect them to migrate out if this moves in. We probably will too.

It's another site for housing, services, etc. Basically an ARCH, but in a somewhat affordable neighborhood. Lord knows this shit wouldn't be in Tarrytown.

USMNT 2019
As long as it's not a major injury, I'm actually glad Adams is heading for a rest. Very little to be gained by him being there, imo.

Same. Fuck Ann kitchen. She specifically said it would not be close to neighborhoods.

It looks like they're moving a bunch of services to an as yet unnamed location in south Austin, likely close to us. Nextdoor has been a comedy the last couple of days.

Uh, can you provide some background on that? If I remember correctly he was pretty clear about his recommendations to MLS around starting/improving their academies, but I have slept since then.

What's the Shag (Surly) consensus on the HPV vaccination?
I had a friend die of cervical cancer at 31. Diagnosed while she was on vacation for her 30th birthday. It was a terrible year while she fought the disease. That's now mostly preventable.
