Abbott being Abbott
"Do-nothing" is what they run on -- government is incompetent of course, so doing nothing is actually a plus and also owns the libs, who want to do something for people. Their voters want to identify as privileged so they imagine themselves as privileged, due to their hard work --and also as self-sufficient and a target for others' unearned desires. Narcissism works on a macroscopic scale. Easy grift.

Desantis is a POS and needs his own thread
Goddamn, I even italicized my response for you. Again... Roe didn't do shit, in terms of causing some swell of outrage. Eventually, there was an orchestrated, disingenuous power grab to get Baptists to coalesce with catholics, after power brokers determined abortion could be weaponized to create a theocratic movement.

Exactly my point-- evangelicals latched on later because they saw that the pro-fetus stance could align with their views of gender hierarchy and rigidity, and they saw this could help them gain power for a christofascist state. You agree with me but say I have brain damage ... interesting.

As you are likely aware, it's the well-sourced and -researched truth. Your attempt at contrarian intellectual has deteriorated into petty, transparent insults.

Troll. It wasn't initiated by Roe, there was a concerted political strategy to sell "life begins at conception" to get the (previously not on-board) Baptist coalition onboard as pro-fetus along with the papists, so they could move together as power brokers in support of a christian theocratic state. Quite sure this isn't the first you've heard of this. But sure, grass-roots opposition to Roe (rolls eyes)

The destruction of America's public education system
posted by a teacher from an elementary school in my son's district, in response to some parents' comments today regarding the rainy day pickup: Please give us grace as we figure out how to keep your students safe in light of the Uvalde massacre & the new safety procedures we are working out. The first week of dismissal is always a bit messy and chaotic. We were told parents are supposed to wait outside and doors are to remain closed. We escort children out of the building to their families so essentially everyday is like rainy day dismissal at my campus.

The destruction of America's public education system
it's even worse than the recapture bullshit itself -- after the pitiful funding allotment the state sets per student is met in other districts, all those sweet extra millions of Austin's property taxes goes into the general fund. For Abbott to fuck around at the border with, do culture warring, or any other fucking thing he or the lege feels like doing. The state has a $27 bil surplus right now, and AISD is tens of millions in the red, so can't pay teacher salaries, meet special ed requirements, or fix all the failing AC systems. It's a fucking shell game that should be illegal.

"Patriot Mobile" wtf. How does this company have all these spare dollars to throw around? Guess it's a nice distraction from the fact that internet porn is more easy and likely to be accessed by minors and way more egregious than words in a book

The downfall of Lindsay Graham
and this excuse by Graham that he was just using his investigatory function in the course of potentially legislating mail-in ballots/certifying the election and such is total, transparent horseshit

Official Thread for Abortion Demagoguery
Fucking this. It's why I said earlier that fetus existence, and not even viability, is deemed superior to any rights a breathing woman has. This has gotten to an absurd extreme quickly, and should alert everyone to the fact there is no limit the R's won't reach for. The "they won't come for me" aphorism re: Nazi Germany is entirely in play.

I caught the cancer
Wow, rooting for you, Stringer. We need a hug emoji. Sounds like they aren't messing around with the intensity of your treatment, so a better sign than many of the apathy/misdiagnosis stories I've heard. I guess you're in Austin, so let us know if any of us surlies can do anything.

I really enjoyed the video about strodes. Would love to live with a transport system and streets much more like Amsterdam than the horrible concrete jungles we have here.

Official Thread for Abortion Demagoguery
This is essentially the situation in Montana, from a piece on NPR. Case law ruled that abortion is protected in the state constitution. Now comes the R push to get new maga judges on the state supreme court. This battle will never end.
