2025 Random Games thread
Just do what Bama did. Wait a beat and a then crash. Vandy counts on defenses reacting instinctively then taking advantage of that. Let them have 2 yards by being patient rather than risking 15 because you are trying to choose right and gets 5 yard loss. They can’t sustain drives without defenses choosing wrong.

Slow Horses
Was funny and was a weird slow burn because you knew exactly what was going to happen...

comedy is in a weird place right now
It's Jeselnik in a kind of Aragorn way -- no one thinks there is a king, including the king (other than a bunch of meatheads in Austin). He doesn't appear to give enough of a shit to cash in on his talent the way he could. I both am disappointed and respect and admire it.

Las Vegas go hard or go home thread
Going next month (UT-GA weekend) and staying at Circa, I think. We are all almost or just past 50, so this is a sportsbook (Circa is just spectacular for this), poker, craps, trip and maybe catch a concert if one is in town (2 years ago we caught Built to Spill and The Hold Steady randomly playing the same gig, which was awesome as I love THS and BtS is one of my buddy's all time favorites). But overall, we look and play the part of dork dads on vacation. I rarely spend any time at good restaurants on these trips (and it's been two years), because degenerate, but want to find a spot this time for one excellent meal. What's a favorite steakhouse where we can come out of the sports books or off the tables and walk into with our untucked short sleeve Poncho, Vuori chinos, baseball cap, and ON Clouds (you know, the West Austin dad uniform) without looking like complete slobs. I figure we'll need to go to the strip unless someone can convince me on V&A or Andiamo because they are downtown.

The New Car Fanatic Thread
Tell me about the new Lexus GX? I want an SUV again. I had a Lexus (although an IS350, so completely different) and loved the service compared with the three different German dealerships I've had to deal with since. I really like how it looks, and it has a bigger engine than the land cruiser. But is it just the same truck in a prettier package? I drove the old one a couple of times and wasn't thrilled.

Fey's Noem was incredible.

SEC Refs Suck
I am catching up on this. He clearly came up with this idea at some point in the last month to save a delay of game without burning a timeout because SEC refs. It's a one shot opportunity, though. The dude is an embarrassment and a liar. This was premeditated for the right situation. And it worked.

Task (HBO)
So whatever department Grasso works for, his boss is in deep with Dark Hearts and as a result, so is he? I need a little more there. Hope we get it. Still, great episode.

The Wire
In the middle of a rewatch. The first scene of season 4 with Snoop at the hardware store and in the truck with Chris is fucking hilarious. Top 3 funniest scenes of the show. McNulty assuming the small town sheriff is a racist when chasing the cell phone buyer in season 3 is up there.

Sterlin Harjo’s new show ‘The Lowdown’ coming to FX
It's very Lebowski-esque, then come to find out that it's intentionally an homage to Raymond Chandler, so that makes sense. Enjoying it.

2025 ACL
We watched Role Model. He understood the assignment and is a cheese ball. I told my wife he looks like Steve-O and some fangirl behind me got upset because now she can’t unsee it. Dylan Gosset was great as was Dr Dog. I liked Willow Avalon but it’s too big for her. Had a Kelly Willis vibe. Amex cabanas today so comfort outweighs quality, although may try to catch Modest Mouse.

Yep. I was there at the AV stage that year. It broke ACL.

Austin FC
Well we have all of our offensive firepower in for these last 10 minutes. Should be exciting at least.

Austin FC
Heh. He is fun. But also very frustrating. Good Bukari tonight. Let’s see him capitalize.

Austin FC
I’ll be there. Most important (home) game in franchise history (I think it’s bigger than the Dallas playoff game) and I am getting a vibe that the crowd is gonna be light. That’s too bad.

Arch Manning: Scores every way possible
I mean, Quincy Avery isn’t a nobody in the world of D1 QBs. He runs Elite 11. He has credibility. But that also tells on him re: Arch because Arch passed on that camp. So yeah. He’s got an axe to grind.

Charlie Kirk got ded, Erika Kirk grifts in place
What the DT thread obtusely and intentionally won't grok is that it's OK to believe two things can be true. This can be a heinous act and devastating to a young family AND Charlie Kirk can be immediately remembered as fascist racist internet troll who was part of the problem with our current national discourse, particularly because he was intellectually dishonest about the role he purported to play in it.

Genre-defining movies
While Pulp Fiction is itself intentionally derivative, I feel like there were a ton of copy cat zany, ultra violent, ensemble cast movies that came out right after and have been going ever since.... Most starring Christopher Walken - Things to Do in Denver When Your Dead, 2 Days in the Valley, Suicide Kings, Smoking Aces, all of Guy Ritchie's british gangster movies. Even movies like Go and The Way of the Gun.
