I drove all the way up to Argyle last week to check out 407BBQ. Place is way overrated unless I went on an off day. The lean was dry as cardboard. The fatty was actually good. The ribs were overcooked as well. They do have a tasty rub, so it would have probably been above avg if it was cooked properly. Sausage is a fine grind, meh. Fried brussel sprouts and potato salad were winners. The next time I drive up to this area I'll check out Smiley's Craft BBQ once they get up and running.
Helluva run UA. Nice!
I ran a "trail" half marathon at Brazos Bend State Park. The course already measured at 13.5, when i was all done, the garmin total was 13.8 miles. Very flat and smooth course. For the 13.1 section I was 1:44. I was hovering 7:55 for each mile through mile 11. I feared limping, so I took an energy gel at mile 9. I ingested the wrong gel, I mistakenly took the non-isotonic, and did not have any water. I ended up limping in with a big stitch -- 8:01 at mile 12. 8:38 for mile 13. then a fab 9:05 for the last .8 miles.
I was able to witness Patrick Reagan break the american 100 mile trail record. I believe he ran a 12:21:XX. a sub 7:25/mile pace. He passed me on his second loop, all I thought about was how he blew by me, and he still had about 80 miles to go.
It doesn't seem Derek Allen's BBQ gets much attention in Fort Worth. Went on Friday and all was excellent. But ribs needed a little more time on the smoker.
I've heard good things, looking forward to it. I missed out when he was in the food hall off berry, then missed out on a couple of pop ups he did. Looks like he should rolling smoke very soon.
Well, I went back to BBQ on the Brazos on Friday. Arrived right at 11am, nothing has changed from my last visit, very avg bbq, brisket was dry and crumbled. Ribs did pull off the bone, but overcooked and had little flavor, even after he shaked some rub over them. Sausage could've came from ekrich farms.
On another note, the bbq set up I saw by hot box biscuit club last weekend, looks to be Brix Barbecue.
Went to Hot Box Biscuit Club for lunch, great shit, got the Paris Hilton, major thumbs up.
But just around the corner, someone is setting up a bbq trailer with an airstream. If anyone has any details.
Nobody hit up Zoli's yesterday? The wife wouldn't go, thought it would be a cluster-eff, plus we are already doing pizza on Thursday for Halloween. From the pics I saw, it wasn't too crowded. I'm really looking forward to the ice cream. They have one with swiss pastry's black forest cake.
Damn.... even urbanachiever can blaze. Nice work!
I'm thinking Jet Black might have won his age group at Waco 70.3 if he wasn't recently in Hawaii... pfffft.... priorities. hahaha, hopefully you can tell I'm kidding. You still tore it up.
Went to BBQ on the Brazos, and it was meh. Definitely not what I remembered from like five years ago. The cutter didn't know the difference from fatty and lean. I asked for a quarter of each, and all i got was lean. Lean was just alright, good bark and flavor, but not very tender. Couldn't cut it with a fork. Line was 40 deep around 11:30. They were out of ribs by 11:55. More wouldn't be ready till after 12:30. I'm guessing all the call in orders dominated the ribs. Lots of peeps coming in for pick up. And they were out of sausage. Something about losing power last night. anyways.... I'll give them another shot soon.
May need to hit up Dayne's tomorrow to make up for eating avg bbq.
Went to Swiss Pastry for lunch today. It had been a couple of months. But damn, their cheesesteak sandwich is phenomenal. Then to top it off with the black forest.
Btw, if you have not had their kouign amman, however it's spelled, great blast item if you like croissants.
