Kinsler is activated from the DL... and Devers was put back on the 10-day DL (hamstring strain, retroactive to yesterday). Kinda disappointing, although both Nunez and Holt are an upgrade at 3B defensively.
Didn't realize the PawSox WooSox is seriously going to be a thing now. For selfish reasons (I have family in RI that I visit in the summer), I don't like it.
Pawtucket Red Sox Reach Tentative Deal To Move To Worcester
That is actually a cool story, bro.
Fucking Pomeranz shit the bed tonight, but oh well... a split series in Philly isn't the end of the world. Another off day tomorrow, then back to Fenway for 3 vs the Rays, followed by 4 vs the Indians. More importantly, the last road trip of the year over a week is over, and the Sox are still 10 games ahead of the Yanks.
Ryan Brasier and his 1.13 ERA have had quite the journey. Definitely worth the read.
Ryan Brasier’s journey from failed Fenway tryout 11 years ago to reliable bullpen option
* He has an 0.69 ERA in his last 10 starts, striking out 109 in 65 innings.
* He has thrown 28 consecutive scoreless innings.
* He has not allowed a HR in 68 IP dating back to June 1.
* Opponents are 33-225 (.147) against him since June 8.
I know the O’s are essentially a AAAA team at this point, but it’s always nice to win both games of a doubleheader.
And just to be this guy, here are Kimbrel’s last six appearances:
6.1 IP, 6 ER, 7 H, 5 BB, 2 HR, 8 K
He needs to get his shit together. ASAP.
It's ridiculous. I'm biased, but I'd go with Mookie as well. His defense definitely gives him a nod over JDM. But part of me really wants to see Jose Ramirez keep cruising, largely in hopes of him leading the league in HR & SB... a feat that hasn't been accomplished in 86(!) years.
Well, Jerry Remy's cancer returned, so he won't annoy for much longer... [sorry]
Although Eck is a lot of fun in the booth, so I suppose he'll get more work soon.
Funny how the Sox used to have Orsillo in the booth, then NESN drove him off, and now he's a prime reason the Padres have such a good commentary team.
While sweeping the MFYs (in a FOUR-GAME SERIES) is always fun, I hope the team didn't celebrate too much... it's certainly a highlight of the season so far, but there's still a lot of games to be played. These three games in Toronto is a "trap" series if there's ever been one. Pomeranz not shitting the bed tonight will help. (I still think he's destined for the bullpen - they are short lefties there - but obviously you still want him to pitch well enough in the meantime.)
Might as well show some fun STATS. Here's where the Sox rank as a team in MLB:
Runs - 1st
Hits - 1st
AVG - 1st
OPS - 1st
HR - 6th (Yanks are 1st, btw)
2B - 1st
OBP - 2nd
Total Bases - 1st
SB - 2nd(!)
SB % - 2nd
ERA - 2nd
Quality Starts - 2nd
K - 3rd
BAA - 3rd
Opponent OPS - 2nd
Opponent Total Bases - 4th
Save % - 4th
Blown saves - 5th
They are a good team. But they still gotta keep it up over the next 2+ months...
