  1. Yes, X is chipping away at it….
  2. Strong Modena recommendation for morning tour at Acetaia di Giorgio, followed by lunch at Trattoria Ermes. Reservation recommended for Acetaia di Giorgio. Ermes is lunch only and takes no reservations. Arrive early.
  3. aggy is not Big Ten ready
  4. I mostly followed this recipe from Sylvia Casares (Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen in Houston) by way of Texas Monthly. Deviations: I substituted poblano for bell pepper; I tightened with masa instead of flour; and Because I have a Vitamix and learned to make chili from Surly, I did not process the garlic in the spice grinder, and I did not strain the chili sauce. After grinding the cumin seeds and peppercorns, I processed everything together in the Vitamix, adding a bit more liquid from the simmering meat as needed.
  5. Carne Guisada.

Not too far away, we had an exceptional dinner at Olivomare, 10 Lower Belgrade St.
  7. Was done through our builder. He used Xpedite Coatings (Houston).
  8. The chips give good traction. I’ve been told single color - no chips - can be slick.
  9. This is a secondary setup for the kids, for whom I have only the AVR; no speakers. The primary setup is a Cambridge Audio AVR and Usher speakers. In moving from 5.1 to 7.1, I recently upgraded the mains and am thinking of upgrading the center. If so, the current center (Usher S-525) would be available for the game room.
  10. I am looking to add 5.1 sound to the kids' game room for under $1K. I have a Marantz NR1608 AVR available, which is rated at 50 W for two channels driven at 8 ohms, so I need relatively efficient speakers. This will be overwhelmingly for movies and gaming; not so much for music. Thanks for any suggestions (other than Cerwin Vegas from the white van at Home Depot).

There are Nandos in and around DC and Chicago. And, two are soon to open in Houston, with a promise of more to come, including in Austin and Dallas.

My in-laws (wife’s brother’s family) are spending the 2022-23 academic year in London. We are visiting Thanksgiving week and will stay with them in Chiswick. Between the two families, there are three 15-16 year old kids. We arrive Monday morning and depart the following Sunday morning, so no Sunday roast. Here is what my sister-in-law has put together for the week. I welcome suggestions of restaurants and of anything glaringly missing. Thanks. Killer bottle! Brings back great memories.
  15. Any recommended Medicare consultant? Looking for traditional Medigap (likely G) and Drug (D). No interest in Medicare Advantage.
  16. I hear you. I just like knowing it is there if wanted, and as a place for people to meet up. Side stage hospitality access his huge! I used to have full weekend access for HomeAway, from which my buddy is now retired, and which no longer sponsor's a stage. This year, I scored for Tito's.
  17. No one fucks with empty chairs. We generally set up chairs at the front of the chair zone at the stage where we expect to end the day (often the stage where we will be for multiple acts), and then take off. It is nice to have a "home base" and a place to sit/crash late in the day if needed.
  18. I'm an old and have long bitched about the evolution and degradation of the lineup, but this weekend - including acts/bands I would never have seen if I hadn't brought my 15 year old daughter - killed it. Friday: Asleep At The Wheel, Noah Cyrus, Zack Bryan, and SZA. Noah Cyrus was a pleasant surprise. SZA was my daughter's only selection that did nothing for me. Saturday: OUSUX, Conan Gray, Lil Nas X, and Pink. Never heard of Conan Gray and only knew LNX for Old Town Road, but both were great. Daughter has come a long way since begging me to tune Sirius/XM to Kids' Bop. Sunday: Sent the kid back to Houston to be in school Monday and hit Spoon, Paramore, Goose, and Kacey Musgraves. All were great. Goose was the set of the weekend.
  19. It’s about time.
