If one of them hasn’t recovered by then I would think they’d use Herbie Blash for the weekend. I do think that he’d have to inspect the new surface too, though. Not saying he can’t do that, but I am not sure how that process works.

I should say, he did try to buy out Haas a bunch of times (and had a preliminary deal with Sauber), but currently they are trying to become a new entry.

Ferrari Driver Academy is pretty bare at the moment. They have Schwartzman in F2 who is OK and is Ferrari’s current test driver, but he’s not spectacular (he’s also Russian, but competes under the Israeli flag now), and Arthur Leclerc in F3 who is ok but not even close to what his brother is.

Yellowstone
This doesn’t really help you since you’re staying in West Yellowstone, but just as an aside, when I went to YELL and GRTE from SLC, I stayed in Logan for the night and then cut through the Wasatch and went up around Bear Lake and eventually into Wyoming that way, into Jackson and eventually the South YELL entrance. It’s at least much more interesting than the normal highway drive. Some parts are still boring, but was worth it overall.

The field, in general, is really damn good right now. It will be even better when Piastri gets a seat (which may be in a Williams next year).

I’m just glad Latifi didn’t crash this time. But yeah.

Yeah, but they haven’t actually brought anything to fix their issues yet. They are naturally going to go backwards relative to the competition who have upgraded their cars some. Look at Aston, they were hopeless just a few races ago, but have brought some updates and are doing a bit better now. A lot of the qualifying speed issues also come from tire warmup, which is a separate issue but one they need to workout just as much (they have always struggled with this, though). If they are still shitty after Barcelona then yeah they might be turbo fucked, at least for this year.

Got a cool little something for you all. I acquired some old press photo slides of the 1976 USGP at Watkins Glen and went ahead and scanned them using my DSLR, and the results were fun. These were shot on Ektachrome. The action shots are only so-so, but the rest are mostly great. Apparently I’m in the minority, but I like that change. Qualifying and racing are two different things, so recognizing the person that goes fastest in that format is the correct move, I think. I of course abhor the sprint race in its current format anyway, so if we were to remove its affiliation with the race starting grid, that would make it better.

^^^ One thing I forgot to mention is to use an air blower on both sides of your film before scanning. Now for some examples. I did use the Faithful color profile from my camera, and adjusted white balance to where it looked most natural to me, using foliage and the sky as my guides. I have a pretty good handle on WB, so I think I did alright. No adjusting of any HSL whatsoever, but I did adjust some levels in order to improve some of the scans, since I was shooting in raw. Also, Kodachrome actually has a ton of shadow detail, but is also high contrast, so I tried to balance that in the raw file. These were taken in Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon National Parks in 1975 (processed in June, 1975). Not sure what speed, but likely Kodachrome 64. - The "Post a Picture You Took" thread
