Lighten up, Francis, I was being humorous and assumed you would have picked up on that particular issue. I’m a single issue voter on housing! Leverage doesn’t have anything to do with it.
I mean, to be fair, the goal of growing social housing via enacting policies designed to drive down the value of rent controlled housing stock and forcing the owners into bankruptcy court-ordered sales to the city was, while certainly thinking outside of the box, never a particularly good one.
Dunno if anyone has followed Devin Snow, but in the depths of lockdown this dude began hitting up hole in the walls every Monday for red beans to hype up small businesses and became a huge local social media follow. Today, after 300 Mondays, he wrapped up the series at Queen’s in Kenner. What a run.
I’m assuming you will drive up 101. The Benbow Inn is our go-to spot for the first night of the drive north. It was built when 1010 was first developed as a getaway for the Hollywood crowd. Cool historic spot that I highly recommend. If you are heading to Crater Lake (which you absolutely should) I also recommend a pit stop in Ashland, a nice, quirky little town known for its annual Shakespeare festival. Quite a few nice boutique hotels there. To put it gently, not much Shakespeare is read elsewhere in the region.
I meant that it is a museum and very average by contemporary standards. But it is a good place for big groups, so if you just need a place to enjoy sazeracs and have trout almandine then go for it. The only thing I note is that, when I do get dragged there, I consistently find service rushed and inattentive, making it difficult to enjoy sazeracs and trout almandine. But maybe being an eight top solves that.
I’ve always heard good things about Alcatraz. With teens, I would say walk. North Beach/Chinatown. Hike the Presidio. Hell, walk from one to the other and see Pacific Heights. You can rent bikes around the Presidio too, as well as Golden Gate Park. For the wine country, hope they like the views at vineyards. Stopping in Tomales Bay for oysters is always fantastic, though.
